I really wish I could enjoy my deck during the summer. I just went out to sweep away storm debris and within a minute had enough mosquito bites to trigger hives. There just aren't enough bats and ladybugs to eat them all. And the Asian Tiger Mosquito is my own personal nemesis. I'd like to enjoy my yard. I'd like to sit outside and enjoy a glass of iced tea.

The next time we get a rainstorm, I'm going out and taking care of the deck. It will be swept and scrubbed. There will be *no* more flowerpots out there. I like having plants, but I'll bring them back inside. I'll just have to get plant lights again.

The tigers here are silent daytime feeders. They're smaller than the Michigan State Bird variety of bloodsucker. I honestly don't *mind* regular mosquitoes as much as these bastards, unless I'm trying to sleep and one is whining near my ear.

You and [livejournal.com profile] explodingcat should build some bat houses for the back yard. Our friends in Ipswich, MA, used to have fierce mosquito problems in their yard until B put out a few of those.

There are plenty of bats here, the ravine has tons of trees that host bats. We don't really have any good places to mount a bathouse in the yard itself and our house isn't tall enough. The local bat population needs a high E or SE exposure, preferably guarded against the west/northwest winds.

Small, voracious, striped (http://images.google.com/images?q=asian%20tiger%20mosquito&hl=en&lr=&client=safari&rls=en&sa=N&tab=wi) non-native mosquito. Bites during the day, doesn't whine. I'm allergic to it. Nasty, nasty bug.

I know how you feel. I can't go out to the garden without getting at least five or ten bites. I've got green beans that need picking and I could get another mess of 6 week peas, but I just can't take the bites. Nothing repels them, and I've tried it all. I know you aren't able to use the chemicals but I doubt they'd work anyway. I've gone from Skin So Soft to Off! to Windex (yes, Windex) and nothing works.

Around here, it's these teeny tiny little black bitches that bite the lliving Hell out of you. They love the backs of my knees, and I get hives from them.

the bloody bastards ate my chilluns and my man this afternoon. ech!

can you use the Burt's Bees sketter repellent? girly's skin is very sensitive, but she can use Burt's and it's been really effective (when we remember to use it!)

Nope, lemongrass and citronella give me migraines, especially on my skin. And BB uses soy *or* wheat germ oil for their Vitamin E . . . . neither of which are jos-friendly.

man, the mosquitos think that I am so tasty this year. I can go put clothes in my dryer, in my outside shed, and come back with over 10 bites. My oncologist thinks I just taste better after the chemo.
