Right now, I hate Habitat for Humanity. Their construction workers are cutting down trees in the small ravine behind my house. A pair of pileated woodpeckers lives back there, among the myriad other birds and wildlife. They're cutting away the trees that line the bank of a small creek. This will contribute to erosion, while the new home materials and new lawns will contribute to the death of the creek.
Boy says it's better they destroy nature in town than outside of city limits, but I think it sucks, period.

Date: 2006-04-03 03:49 pm (UTC)Because no matter what side you choose, you're always mean and a hypocrite. I speak very bluntly because I've resigned to the fact I will always offend someone, and will always be wrong in some way.
After all, you probably live in a house made of stone cut from the earth, or wood from tree once home to something.
Its easy to dislike the bad things that belong to other people. And so hard to hate the bad things that are our.
When we slaughter life for food, it is oddly easier than slaughtering the woods for our home.
We need more tree farms if people are still cutting old growth lumber. That being said, it is hard to complain after 30 years of increased forest growth in the US.
Regardless of philosophy or ethics though...its always sad to see nature fall at our hands.

Date: 2006-04-03 04:53 pm (UTC)First question:
Why are they building stuff back there? And what street actually goes back there? Isn't that kind of mean to stick a HFH home back in a corner where the people who live there are going to be hard pressed to get anywhere near a bus stop easily? Because I'm pretty sure the families that qualify/end-up-in those homes are going to be the first ones to not be able to pay for gas once the prices get over $3/gallon. Not to mention all the other fun costs of owning a car.
Second question:
Can I use the bulldozer for target practice? I've got a potatoe. And PVC. I can get hairspray.

Date: 2006-04-03 04:58 pm (UTC)The street back there is Paton. The original easement for Paton came through your driveway. The building seems to be along Paton, near Hanover. You turn on Hanover to get back there. All anyone has to do is walk up Hanover to Cherry to get the bus. Or walk down King to 9/10 Street.

Date: 2006-04-03 08:38 pm (UTC)It does suck. It sucks. When I win a million dollars I'll build a big large home in the country and you and boy can come and live with us. Maybe YOU can teach Chris to eat!
*hugs*
I'm soooo sad for you and angry I think too. It's wasteful to destroy the trees. it happens here far too much. At least in the process of cutting behiund us it was just shrubbery and weeds no actual trees and at least we are in a known division. I want to buy the land next to us if we ever can. It's 97 undeveloped acres I don;t want it all just like a few acre buffer. Well, I want it all I just can't have it all. :)
I'm so sorry. *hugs*
