Third time . . . still within 90 days of the last repair. Still within three years of first purchase. But . . . ERURGH!
And I know they probably still haven't fixed the support bug which requires a human to write out the dispatch number and then personally see to shipping and whatnot.
Apple's policy on lemon stuff, is on, or after the third major repair, they will replace it. coworker of mine got bumped from the 800mhz g3 to the g4 because of that..
You gotta love Apple for the way they make shitty hardware for the end user and then make probably just as much or more on having parts replaced. Maybe that's the only reason their heads are still above water.... I wonder....
Actually: Is there a cost to customers who participate in the Expanded iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program? The repairs outlined in this program, including shipping charges, are covered at Apple's cost. from http://www.apple.com/support/ibook/faq/
Apple's policies are usually pretty good for hardware issues especially if it's a component failure or while the product is under warranty. We've had Apple computers since the days of the blue G3s, including a 3rd generation iMac, a Cube, a new LCD iMac, an eMac, several power books, an iBook and a G4 and a G5. We've never had any hardware issues other than my powerbook and I believe that was from being dropped several times.
Did you have an especially bad experience or are you just speculating?
You could always write a polite e-mail to sjobs@apple.com. I've heard one instance where he took real good care of someone who wrote to him about a particular problem they were having.
I can't believe it went again. that's absolutely ridiculous! Have you contacted apple yet? I hope they fork over a new machine this time. Sheesh! Let me know what happens. My software guru doesn't have much to do with hardware but I'll see what I can do. If nothing else I can send you the dying power book to tide you over. :)
