Dec. 1st, 2003

i have a very good husband.

he's surly because he's back at work after a long weekend (and over a week away from home). he was jerked out of bed by a phonecall this morning from the landlord about the grass (it's about 3" long, by the way). followed shortly by one from a coworker at 9am, so he had to put his computer back together right away (well, he'd have started it *anyhow*, but y'know... and his computer is misbehaving, to boot, which is not a good thing. i'm not sure if it's bad misbehaving or just "had no access to the VPN for a week, must download oogles of data" misbehaving.

he's also disguntled because the house is a mess (we haven't had time to unpack or do laundry from the NJ trip) and groceries are everywhere, but the pantry needs to be re-arranged before we can put them away.

he has a wife who is wincing everytime she *breathes*, much less moves...

and he just called to me to let me know my teapot was whistling and my omelet is done. he's a *good* monkey. i love him so much.

i bought blue leopard print fleece at joann's yesterday because it was on sale and i want to make a housedress/robe out of it. the next time simplicity goes on sale for 99 cents, i'll buy the robe/housedress pattern i want. 18 bucks for fabric is cheaper than paying 50 bucks for one at Penney's, even on sale. i'd make it from an altered dress pattern I have, but i need a pattern when i use zippers and i will be using a zipper for this one.

i also bought the mccall's pattern i'd be waiting for a sale on (99 cents!). it's a formal/wedding pattern, but includes a lace overdress pattern. my own lace overdress is ratty and worn and i'd like a new one. so now i can make one the next time *nice* stretch lace is on sale.

i wore my planet-print fleece dress and legwarmers yesterday because i wanted silly and comfortable clothing. yes, that's last year's halloween costume. i also wore tie-dyed pink tights and over-the-knee black socks. and my hair was in pigtails. if i could still find *that* print, i'd use it to make a housedress. alas, i can't find it these days. is okay, i like the blue leopardprint.

The Elysian Fields CD we got off Ebay earlier in November arrived today with our held-for-the-holiday mail. We opened it first--so excited... I handed the CD to boy, expecting him to immediately put it in his computer to play... he laughed and said, "you might want to email them and ask them to take the CD out of their stereo next time."

The case is empty. The seller has extremely good feedback, so I've sent them a polite email about this, hoping for resolution. Ideally, I'd like the CD. If they have no way of finding it or sending it to me, I've requested reimbursement for what I paid (item price + s/h) along with reimbursement for mailing the empty case back to them, if they want it back.

I really hope it was just an oversight--that they left the CD in their stereo while testing it for playability or something, though I'm not sure how likely that is, since this is a power seller. And I hope they believe me. I have a perfect feedback rating, though it's not a huge one (less than 40... I've been on ebay several years, but I'm not a frequent bidder).

i made lentils and rice today. i chopped the onion with our new NICE chopping knife... it hurt, but not as much as it could have. and onions make boy cry an awful lot. he chopped the celery and carrot and lifted things (the glass jar of chana dal, olive oil, etc). i used red himalayan rice, chana dal, urad dal, curry leaves, bay leaf, the aforementioned veggies, some spices, and broth. it's so good. curry powder and some tomato paste to even out the flavors. so nice. so very nice.

i forgot that i have a CFIDS/Fibro group meeting this wednesday. it's the holiday potluck. i might take this. it's easy to make and i have a variety of rices and dals. i hope i feel well enough to go, but it's the one place i definitely should go.

boy's at his qi gong class. i should shower. being clean makes me happy.
there's a beautiful quarter moon flirting with mars outside my window.

I've a friend in very sore need of finding a doctor who can be her primary care physician. She has thyroid problems and needs someone who can handle that, plus her birth control, etc. She's rather shy, but also quite independent. She doesn't like dealing with strange doctors and would rather have recommendations. Being rather reclusive and such, she has no friends with similar health issues who are local to her who can recommend doctors she might get along with.

her partner's company was supposed to add her several months ago, but are buttheads and haven't managed to get it in gear yet. she doesn't make a lot of money and needs to find someone ASAP because the clinic she uses is going to cut her off from birth control since they can't cope with her other health problems. someone who accepts sliding scale (or long term payment plans) would be ideal, as would someone who accepts a wide variety of insurance. she's trying to get hired full time where she works so that she'll at least have insurance there, but that could take awhile.

She's in the San Fernando Valley area and has access to a car. She'd rather drive to a doctor she likes than walk to one she hates.

(Those of you who know who she is--hush... ;) she's wanting to stay anonymous right now.)

If anyone can offer advice, feel free to comment/direct others here or email me at krasota (at) livejournal (dot) com. I can forward name/addy info to her.

I've just decided to list a few Indiana bands I enjoy listening to from time to time.

Of course, we can't all trust my taste, after all I'll listen to Ricky Martin, The Why Store, and Ween. I'd even put them on a compilation CD with Glenn Danzig, EN, and Sarah MacLachlan.

You all know my fondness for Turn Pale. [livejournal.com profile] explodingcat has managed to somehow describe them in a way I can't quite wrap my typing fingers around. I agree with his every word, though. They're the only band on this list I've seen live.

The rest will be folks I'm acquainted with in some way, whether I went to school with someone in the band or they happen to be on my LJ friends list.

Well, let me start by introducing you to Hg. I can't describe the sound. It's just something I enjoy. Driving guitars... heavier sounds... interesting lyrics and fun vocals. When I was younger, I had a crush on the bassist. We went to school together until I left for the Academy.

The Nancy School has another undefineable sound. Dynamic. Full. Twisting. I like it. I enjoy the vocals, too. I like vocalists who take risks. Chris was at the Academy for one of the years I was there. I didn't know him well, but I'll plug his band because I like the way it sounds. ;) I need to buy the album.

VX. I've only heard a few songs they've made available on their website or MP3.com, but I enjoy the stuff. I like electronic goth music, I like female vocals--including harsh ones (I mean, I'll listen to Jarboe, so...) and trip-hoppy ones and ethereal ones. Some of the noise elements hurt my ears, but I have hypersensitive fibro ears and they aren't like everyone else's. I'd love to hear more and I hope [livejournal.com profile] tomvx and his bandmates continue producing music. Again, I need to buy their album.

The Sarah Glynn Band isn't technically an Indiana band, but I graduated with Sarah. I didn't know her well, but again--I'll plug a fellow alumna's music if I like it. ;) The music is sort of alterna-folky-eclectic-rock... you know, that genre that gets labelled "alterna-girl folk rock coffeehouse music" and shuffled aside? That's it. I happen to like that genre. I think more people should give it a chance. (And yes, I need to order her Lucy and the Luck Band CD.)

I wish I had an income so I could support all these wonderful musicians and more!

EDIT:
Anyhow, boy wanted to know why I didn't say more about The Why Store, an Indiana band I happen to like quite a bit. Well, for one thing--they've broken up. For another, they managed to make a major label release. I was sort of angling for smaller bands. I do like the Why Store--we have several albums and we saw them live quite a few times in DC (I can't remember if I saw them at all in Muncie, but I *think* I must have)--and now that I know the members have other projects, I'll check those out, too. The Why Store was bluesy bar rock... boy and I looked rather odd at The Bayou, two lone goths sitting at a table in the balcony while the floor teemed with wholesome young Hoosier-born Capitol Hill interns dressed in their work clothes. But hey, my roots are in Indiana and I'm loyal to them, no matter where I live.
