shenis

of course it's not work-safe, unless you can look at pictures of a shenis at work.
krasota: i think "shenis" should be pronounced with a brogue, so it resembles "seamus"
krasota: shaaaaay*hackcoughsputter*nuss

are you sure you really want to know?
tonight's dinner

1 bunch dandelion greens, washed and sliced into strips
two-four servings capellini
garlic, minced (two large cloves)
crushed red pepper
olive oil
onion, chopped
sage (1/2 teaspoon, maybe?)
salt/pepper
1 can small white beans, drained
1 yellow squash, sliced into 1/4 to 1/8 inch slices, which are then quartered

set a large pot of salted water on to boil. when it reaches a boil, toss in the greens. boil for seven minutes, then drain (RESERVE THE WATER) and rinse in cold water. squeeze greens out, fluff with fingers or fork. return water to stove and bring back to a boil. add pasta to the boiling ex-greens water.

meanwhile, heat oil in a large skillet. toss in red pepper and onion. when onion is almost transluscent, add sage, garlic. when you think about it, add beans and some more oil... add the squash and cover the pot, turn the heat to low. add greens when the pasta is almost done. then drain the pasta and add to the big pot. season with salt and pepper.

this is yummy with a little parmesano and/or nutritional yeast. :9
got milk... silk?

ew.

i'd like my goat milk with extra strings, please. it's great with cereal. i get milk and floss in one bite!
interesting british article on failure of the EPA to warn the public about the dangers of the aftermath of the collapsed WTC.

when this happened, i wondered how long it would be before the government and public health sectors acknowleged what will probably be called "WTC cough", something not unlike Multiple Chemical Sensitivity/Environmental Illness/Chemical-Injury (after all, that's what some folks will undoubtedly suffer). will it be as arduous as the fight to get gulf war syndrome recognized? i feel so horrible for folks who were told it was safe to go home, to breathe the air, to clean up the dust in their homes... :/

"Barred Americans from seeking punitive damages from cities and government boards that refuse to build wheelchair ramps and make other accommodations for the disabled."

from the washington post.

i'm looking for more information...

seems this year's agenda includes severely limiting the ADA. now, if this would make it easier for me to gain disability, i wouldn't complain... but it just makes it more difficult for me to find a safe workplace. :/≤
today was lovely, except for reacting poorly to the stinkiness of boy's acupuncturist's office. she burns things like incense, mugwort, and sage... the sage i can normally deal with (after the fact, NOT during), but i'm horribly allergic to mugwort. i didn't know she used mugwort, or i'd never even step foot in there, but today i stepped in and figured my headache was due to old incense... then the hives started. thankfully, boy came out right around then (15 minutes late).

i told him that i'm going to start picking him up late, so i don't have to sit in the parking lot. i don't want to sit in the car (it's HOT and humid here) because the office is next to the offices for the piedmont environmental council. i just feel weird sitting in a running car outside their doors.

anyhow, spent the rest of the day lazing about. i tried to spot venus, but we had too much glare from the sun.

the grass is crunchy. drought sucks. :/ on the other hand, it's very easy to see the outlines of the former house's foundation now. the grass over the old stones grows poorly since it has the least amount of dirt. with this drought, the line is very pronounced. we also have some fairy rings and some patches of darker grass in areas both within and just adjacent to the old foundation. i need to see if i can find some old maps and such at the courthouse, to see if i can find some information about this area. i could just ask the owners, but they live abroad and are very busy, i doubt they have time to fill me in. if they don't know, i seriously doubt they'll dig up the abstract to figure it out.

over the weekend, i noticed a few bricks scattered around the base of a tree near the fenceline. i pointed it out to boy today, wondering if they were remnants from when the house was rebuilt a hundred years ago or so.

it didn't make sense that a wastepile that close would last so long. i looked over toward some more trees, saw more bricks... walked over. i can't tell if these are remnants of tree rings or walkways. i'm going to investigate some more tomorrow. i haven't been to that corner of the yard, if it's an old garden, there might be some herbs still growing, wild after all these years.

nifty.
