most of my life, strangers have expressed interest or disbelief when presented with my given name. it's never been a big deal for me as it's not exceptionally common in english-speaking countries in this day and age.

i do wonder, however, at the apparent lack of curiousity expressed by my fellow goths and pagans. i find myself wondering if they are so accustomed to affectation that they'd act just as non-plussed if i gave my name as Lady Ravenbutt.

your name isn't exceptionally common, either. folks i meet with rare names tend to commisserate, rather than gawk. ;)

and i knew two jocelyns in college, as well. had a class with each of them, to boot.

it's my surname that people don't believe in :-) and no one is prepared to pronounce it correctly straight away.

Fido. yes, just as you'd expect it to be pronounced. and i don't care. i like it. and dammit, i'm keeping it.
