So, we have an Autogeist.

(This is where local folks can recommend good car electronics repair shops. I don't want to go to a regular mechanic.)

Anyhow, went out last night. It was good to see folks, but going out leaves me quite drained. I'm exhausted, achier than usual, and my head is killing me. Just attending the Dawning leaves me hungover without the benefit of getting me drunk first. I need to move to a city or state where indoor smoking isn't allowed. Unfortunately, those places typically have (a) bad weather; (b) bad traffic; (c) bad air quality; (d) bad locations (anything west of the Mississippi is a bad location, as it's substantially closer to the Ring of Fire than anything *east* of the Mississippi).

Anyhow, I slept for about nine hours and I'd love to crawl back in for another nine, but that would bugger up my schedule for the week.

Today, I think my goals for today involve leaving the house. I might just walk one block, but I need to do at least that much. If espresso were to miraculously appear in that block, I'd praise the hamsters above. Maybe I'll call [livejournal.com profile] xiane. I need to chat with her to confirm a few things about this week. I can also offer her a ride to WNRN tonight.

Enh, earthquakes. We're all going to die of something and perhaps I'd rather have no warning than the warning I get from hurricanes. To each her own. :)

I will point out that it was lovely to take [livejournal.com profile] lcohen out to a restaurant/bar without having to think at all about whether it would be smoky. :)

Does the part of California you're in get snow? If not, the weather is not suitable for me. ;)

Traffic and pollution (air and light) are also factors. Smoke-free restaurants aren't much good if I have smog season and forest-fire season to worry about.

This part does not--I consider that a bonus. Parts of California do get snow, and Tim has some very pretty pictures of it from last weekend. Those parts are also those less likely to have traffic/smog problems and they're a hell of a lot cheaper than it is here. :)

Here, wombatwombatwombat... ;)

Yes, but there's still the whole close-to-the-Ring-of-Fire thing. ;)

(I don't really fear earthquakes and volcanoes. I just prefer tornadoes. And central Virginia sucks because (a) the summers are too hot and humid; (b) the winters aren't wintry; (c) it gets remnants of hurricanes, but very few truly spectacular storms. [livejournal.com profile] explodingcat has this thing against living in the Bible Belt, else I'd have moved us to the sweet, sweet WASP-haven of Indiana years ago. Someday, he'll realize we're well south of the Mason-Dixon line, but so long as he's in C'ville, he can easily overlook it.)

Speaking of weather, C'ville hasn't seen more than a few hours of sunlight in over a week. Please give us back our lovely October weather.

Columbus has a smoking ban on the ballot in Nov (city council passed it, but a referendum put it to the voters.) Several suburbs already have bans in effect.

Not that our air qualitty is all that, but our traffic doesn't suck and the weather only does for part of the year.

Here wombat, wombat....

Ah, yes. The major problem with Columbus is (a) light pollution; (b) traffic; (c) it's in Ohio.

Regards,
the native hoosier.

a) Define bad. We still have wild flowers blooming, although most of the trees have lost their leaves. We average over 300 days a year of sunshine.

b) Not as bad as the Bay Area. I-25 should be avoided between Ft Collins & Colorado Springs, but that's only 3/4 of the way up & down the state.

c) Not much of a problem here in Boulder, although Denver can get quite bad.

d) We're out of the blast range of the super volcano under Yellowstone, but we'd probably have to evacuate within 3 days to avoid the ash.

Boulder does not have a total ban on smoking, but it's pretty strict. You may recall I recently went to a Rasputina show that was smoke free. There will probably be a statewide ban within a few years.

We don't have big weather, but we do have pretty big weather. The tornados don't seem to bother us liberals living close to the mountains, but those foolish flatlanders still tempt Yaweh with their republican ways.

You & Tom are always welcome to come for a visit. :)

bad = hot, no snow, not enough snow, dirty air + slush, too much rain, no tornadoes, humid

You probably have nice weather. ;)

It can get hot in the summer, but seldom over 100F and almost always with humidity less than 20%. The end of July and all of August is monsoon season with clear mornings and thunder storms of usually less than an hour in the afternoon.

Since I've been paying attention to the weather here over the last 3 years, there's only been a couple of really heavy snow storms per year and several small storms that leave just a few inches and melt/evaporate within a few days. Last Xmas it was warm enough that I was wearing sandals outdoors. Very little slush just because the snow goes away so quickly.

Here in Boulder we get about 20" of precipitation per year. Here's a good website for info:

http://www.cdc.noaa.gov/Boulder/

By your standards we probably do have nice weather. Hell, by my standards we have pretty good weather. :)

People wonder why I stopped going out to events that weren't The Dawning. That's completely why. The post-club hangovers from the smoking are really making me ill :/
