a considerable amount of water (less than a quarter cup) just spontaneously dripped onto boy's side of the couch from the cold air return.

o_O

what does this mean?

(well, aside from the obvious: "it means you won't be resting the iBook in that exact spot from now on...")

it's 40 something outside, 68-70 inside. pretty typical spring/fall weather. the furnace hasn't been kicking on a whole lot, just every now and then. it wasn't on when the condensation dripped from the return. it's been raining of late, but the roof is dry and the ceiling isn't leaking at all, nor is the roof (we can go look in the attic again, but it looked fine earlier today when boy put boxes up there and it hasn't rained today).

the cold air returns mostly run in the ceiling and in a couple interior walls. only the heat ducts are under the house. we *just* had the ducts under the house fixed--some of the ones branching out toward the bathroom were completely loose and unfitted. none of the ducts are insulated.

we'll call our landlord tomorrow or monday to say, "hey, um, the ceiling vent is dripping."

it just dripped that once. boy heard a weird rapping noise and *splash splash splash*

It seems like it might have something to do with the fact that you just had the ducts fixed.... something about increased circulation, or change in temperature or something like that... though my brain isn't *quite* making the connection. It certainly doesn't seem "normal".
