Apr. 3rd, 2004 05:13 pma considerable amount of water (less than a quarter cup) just spontaneously dripped onto boy's side of the couch from the cold air return.
o_O
what does this mean?
(well, aside from the obvious: "it means you won't be resting the iBook in that exact spot from now on...")

Date: 2004-04-03 09:31 pm (UTC)Is there a considerable temperature difference outside and inside? does the cold air return run under the house? (I seem to remember that some of your ducts are under the house and not well wrapped, right?)
It could be that there is condensation building up in the cold air return for some reason. It could be that there's a leak somewhere that is somehow getting *in* to the cold air return.
If it were me, I think I'd call someone to come out and at least take a look at the furnace. Just a simple inspection.

Date: 2004-04-03 09:38 pm (UTC)the cold air returns mostly run in the ceiling and in a couple interior walls. only the heat ducts are under the house. we *just* had the ducts under the house fixed--some of the ones branching out toward the bathroom were completely loose and unfitted. none of the ducts are insulated.
we'll call our landlord tomorrow or monday to say, "hey, um, the ceiling vent is dripping."
it just dripped that once. boy heard a weird rapping noise and *splash splash splash*
thanks for your thoughts and advice. :)
