So, now minors in Virginia must have *notarized* parental consent forms in order to obtain an abortion. And late-term abortions are outlawed, even if the mother's life is in danger.

While I believe it's important for teenagers to obtain parental consent for medical procedures, I also recognize that it's sometimes SAFER to a young woman to NOT inform her parents of her pregnancy. I realize that a judge can override this law in certain cases, but that still politicizes a personal choice and that pisses me off.

oh that really torques me! I went to school with a girl whose mother and stepfather were apostalic pentacostals....very extreme ones at that. Well, the stepfather was molesting the girl (this was in seventh grade) and got her pregnant, the mother blamed her for "leading him on in sin's ways" and they forced her to have the baby. She wound up throwing the baby off the roof, stabbing her mother and the stepfather and then killing herself. Sadly, they survived, fucking not good for anything assholes.

MOST of the incestual or step parent sexual child abuse cases I know have occured in "extremely christian" homes....this is why I think these people are the LAST people on earth who should be allowed to have a say in this.

This country just took another step in the wrong direction....I have got to win the lottery and get the fuck out, that's all there is too it. Next thing you know someone is going to burn me at the stake.

when i was at school, a friend came in once with her face badly damaged after her father had hit her.

she had a baby about 7 months later, and i'm sure the two things were linked. i'm certain she told him, and that was his reaction.

so that law makes me uncomfortable, also.

I hate shit like this, I truly do. I think that abortion should be safe, legal, and *UNNECESSARY* . . . I believe in birth control and informed health-care decisions . . . and while I mourn when a woman is forced to make a choice about an unexpected/unwanted pregnancy (because no matter what she chooses, she will have changed herself and her life irreparably), I feel that abortion is just as valid a choice as any other. I'd just like to see fewer women forced into that position, so I'm actively in favor of free/inexpensive universally available birth control.

I think the notary requirement is insane, and hopefully someone will be able to get it overthrown VERY QUICKLY as an obvious violation of medical privacy (since you're having to tell a third party about it that is neither a doctor, a patient, or a family member). Gnnnnghhhh!!! >:/

A law just passed through the Minnesota House of Representatives that requires a 24-hour "waiting period" before a woman can have an abortion. They will also be required to receive counseling to let them know the "possible risks" of an abortion and alternatives to abortion.
Great...I would LOVE to see what type of counseling will be required by the conversative Christians who got this law passed in the first place. And the risks of an abortion will probably be inflated as much as the risks of, say, laser eye surgery. Thankfully, our Senate is controlled by the Democrats, but narrowly...this bill may have a chance of passing.
The worst part for VA is that late-term abortions are banned even if the mother's life is in danger. Um...shouldn't that be a decision that the mother should be able to make? It's HER life.
