So, now minors in Virginia must have *notarized* parental consent forms in order to obtain an abortion. And late-term abortions are outlawed, even if the mother's life is in danger.
While I believe it's important for teenagers to obtain parental consent for medical procedures, I also recognize that it's sometimes SAFER to a young woman to NOT inform her parents of her pregnancy. I realize that a judge can override this law in certain cases, but that still politicizes a personal choice and that pisses me off.

Date: 2003-04-03 07:31 am (UTC)I think the notary requirement is insane, and hopefully someone will be able to get it overthrown VERY QUICKLY as an obvious violation of medical privacy (since you're having to tell a third party about it that is neither a doctor, a patient, or a family member). Gnnnnghhhh!!! >:/
