the laptop's screen is flickering. i don't know if it's the screen itself or a video cable or something else causing the problem.

*sigh*

i don't want to be without it for long. it keeps me from going insane when i can't do much else besides sit on the couch and try not to remember how much pain i'm in. if it's the screen itself, i'm pretty sure that repair isn't covered by Apple's service/labor one fee program.

i'm going to turn it off and go google screen flickers on g3 powerbooks on boy's machine.

?

Didn't you just get the screen replaced not too long ago? If so maybe it's covered by way of a warranty on the repair work done to it before?

....and if it's not, you can get the parts on ebay and I'll have the twig put it together. He was the head tech in an apple service dept. for 2 years, so he knows macs inside and out. I just lucked out in finding the hinges and power/sound card for my pismo for under $100 when the repair through apple would have been $550. My month has been made and I'll soon be portable again and save $450 on doing it!

*gasm*

I'm such a discount shopping whore!

I'll keep that in mind. Does the Twig work for food and booze? ;)

Apple has a repair service where it only costs about 250 for all parts/labor when something is wrong. THey had to replace the cord, power port, and the card the port is attached to, along with the hot swappable CD drive... all for 250, whereas buying the separate parts was going to be higher than that. The thing is, I'm pretty sure the nifty LCD screens *aren't* covered in that deal.

What type of puter is it specificly? I saw complete screen assemblies for wall streets and pismos for cheap.

And yes, Twig works for food and booze. His choice currency: Single Malt and asian cuisine.

lol. we don't keep whiskey in the house (I can't drink it--allergic, of course), so you'd have to give me suggestions. ;)

Try and squeeze the sides of the screen. If that temporarily fixes the problem, its most likely a problem with the cables...

yep. that fixes it temporarily. i saw that recommendation for diagnosing it yesterday. the flicker got *really* bad last night, to the point of washing out the screen briefly, so i'm not going to turn it on unless i have to. i'm stealing boy's work puter now. i guess this will have to spur me onto unpacking the house and setting up the old mac desktop somewhere i can use it.

have you worked with mac laptops? if this *is* just a cable issue, how easily could i fix it myself? i've never had a problem opening up desktop towers and working on them, but laptops are so wee and full of screws. i'm really leery of doing it myself. i think i'll have to find a local mac god like the Twig and lure him in with yummy food and booze.

Thankfully, I've never had the occasion to peek inside my beloved Pismo, so I'm not sure if its a repair that can be done by oneself.

As far as parts goes, pbparts.com (http://www.pbparts.com) has everything you could possibly need.

hrm... I'll see what I can do, but the parts for that one are going to be pricey.

It's covered. Even if it comes to replacing the whole machine, it's covered under the same fee.
