my parents sent us a fluttering, flying, eyes-a'glow bat toy. i need to figure out a place to ceiling-mount it so that it attacks boy on a regular basis.

boy and i took off for a nighttime drive tonight. and we *did* manage to see very faint and dim aurorae... pillars that occasionally broadened or turned reddish. as i said, it was dim... and we saw them over the Shenandoah valley, so there was some light pollution. light pollution, however, doesn't creep and crawl visibly up toward the milky way.

still, i won't count this as "yay!" so much as "okay, i need to see it again. with better conditions. further north."

we came home and i carved the big pumpkin. the shadow-casting bit doesn't work so well, but the rats look really nice in front.

'm going to go to bed now. mmmm, sleeep
Mmmmm, pretty day. I have loads of plans and nothing concrete... it's life, I don't mind.

I think I'll go get some root veggies of some sort. I'm craving them. I'll make bread, maybe beet bread. Boy and I will finally order our rings, since we're still (after four years) wearing the stunt doubles (the originals were promised, but never made... evil evil company). We decided that our anniversary present to each other would be ordering our christmas present to each other.

I'll put out the walkway lights/candles, hang the bat, and when it's dark I'll light the jack o'lanterns. We're thinking of ordering a white pizza with broccoli from Christian's. I'll try to do that before sunset, maybe around 4:45-5pm, to be picked up around 5:15-5:30.

I'm not sure I'll dress in costume tonight. I *should*, but we'll see. I have a costume for tomorrow. I even bought a pomegranate... ;)

I should go buy more candy. I'm not sure I have enough. I suppose I could shower and get dressed, since I can't go anywhere I need to go until boy comes back with the car.

true to celtic tradition, i am incognito today. do not expect to see me about in floofy black skirts and lace tops or velvet...

as i told boy, "i'm the laura ingalls from your wet dreams."
[livejournal.com profile] explodingcat: i'm pretty sure i never had wet dreams about laura ingalls.
[livejournal.com profile] krasota: you will tonight.

Now... I'm off to take pictures of wombat community art... if anyone would like to see sunspots, call me on my cell... i'll have my binoculars. [livejournal.com profile] xiane, if you want to join me in today's revels, feel free to call the cell. if anyone wants to get ahold of me and doesn't know the cell number, call my house and beg boy for the number.

1. What are you wearing right this minute?
A long "pioneer" dress and bonnet made by my mother for the 1981 Mooreland, Indiana, town centennial historical fashion show. This is the dress *she* wore. I had one, too, but I've long since outgrown it. My little brother wore a christening gown loaned by a local family.

2. What are you doing tonight?
handing out candy, eating pizza, revelling.

3. What is your costume?
for today? i'm just completely incognito from my normal self.
for the party at the club tomorrow? why, I'm going as Persephone (no, not [livejournal.com profile] shaktiqueen-- Persephone/Proserpina).

4. When did you stop Trick or treating?
I didn't do it for a couple years around the beginning of teenagerhood--I stayed home and handed out candy with mom. Later, I started getting dressed up and hitting a few houses with a close friend. We only went the places we knew well--we wanted reese cups and popcorn balls. ;)

5. Do you or have you ever believed in the Great Pumpkin?
Of COURSE! maybe later we'll sneak into a pumpkin patch and await its arrival!

that was some of the worst traffic i have *ever* seen in this town. it rivalled downtown dc at 4:45 on a friday afternoon.

we've ordered the pizza... white with broccoli. need to go pick it up soon. we welcome friends visiting us tonight (we encourage it, actually).

time to fetch the pizza, then come home and eat it (and light the lights, etc).
Charlottesville has a program (http://www.artinplace.org/ or something like that) whereby sculpture gets erected around town. Some of it is nice... the tree, the fish, the weird kinetic sculpture on Emmett. Some of it... well, let's just say it isn't aesthetically pleasing.

Someone... or some two, I should say, saw fit to dress up one of these sculptures for Hallowe'en.

I'll let the guilty ones out themselves...

Well, it's certainly an adequate expression of the way I feel upon normally seeing that work...

In other news, here's a pic of the crazy chenille I bought to make into legwarmers. I stopped at Joann's today to check the washing instructions... cold water, delicate cycle, lay flat to dry.

The kids seem to be about done. We didn't get a lot, but we've gone through nearly one big bag of smarties and two bags of sweet tarts.
