So... I finished The Fourth Hand last night. It's been several years since I read any Irving. Now I need to find something else to read. I'm tempted to read another John Irving book. I have one (A Widow For One Year) that I haven't read, but I'm not sure I'm in the mood for it. It's also a hardcover, which will actually *hurt* to read.

Hrmmm...

Oh. Just went in to see just how big the book was. It's large, even for a hardcover. I think I'll re-read Golden's Memoirs of a Geisha, which I have in softcover. And I was just contemplating re-reading it last night. Yes, this will do. It won't hurt quite so much.

I can't believe I'm judging what I read by how much physical pain the book will cause. *sigh*
i'm going to go out and work in my garden.

i've covered myself in olive oil in the hope that this will keep the mosquitoes away.
I'm so glad boy appreciates me. He even lauds my food on too-tired-to-cook nights.

last night, he loved the noodle soup i made. he loves scalloped potatoes. he loves pancakes. sometimes, it's so easy...
despite the lack of sunny days, i realized i'm getting a tan. i just noticed the difference between the skin on my arm and the skin on my belly. since i don't have the UV sensitivity these days, i don't always make sure to wear sunblock. i forgot just *how* quickly my skin will tan. i love my freckles and they're back, too.

i've been going sleeveless when i work in the garden in an attempt to clear up the KP on my arms. sunlight has always done the trick, which was a bitch during the photoallergy years. i also look far less sallow when i have some sun. i don't need a deep dark tan or anything, but if i don't start wearing sunblock, i'll have one before i know it.

i'm still paler than many people, just by virtue of not being awake during the day and wearing lots of long-sleeved dark clothing... but wow. i'd kinda forgotten summer was here.
my husband stood beside me in awe, handing me things as I requested, watching me whip up a cheese sauce for some fettucine and broccoli in a matter of minutes. "*This* is why you're my Iron Chef."

awwww...

now, if i can just get him to reiki my belly with his super hot qi-fired hands, i'll be in heaven.
[livejournal.com profile] gender_petition

From the profile:
This community has been created as a petition to the maintainers of Livejournal.com to request listing more than male and female as gender options in the information / profile listings. This community is for people of all genders.

Livejournal.com currently has close to 1,000 users who list transgender as a personal interest, (and this list is growing daily!) There are also well over 200 communities that address gender variance and relevant identities. Even if you identify as strictly male or female, your membership shows support for other people being able to express their gender identity. After all, Livejournal.com is about being able to express yourself.

By joining this community, you are effectively signing this petition to show support for listing more than two gender options in livejournal profiles / info.

I would most like to see a self-defining/undefining gender option in LJ.
it amuses me that two other people have listed the interest soy is evil in the last week or so. i know that there were only two of us yesterday, today there are three. and sometime last week, I was still the sole interested party.

edit:

it's not so cool. the other two journals seem to belong to the same person. le sigh.
we still can't find the DishTV remote. I suspect [livejournal.com profile] ismene made [livejournal.com profile] rat_bastard eat it, since the last time it was seen was right before we left them alone in the house.

since we have two DishTV boxes, we just switched them. We haven't been using the second one much (we use it to tape our TV shows that are on concurrently during the regular season), anyhow. so we managed to get the boxes switched, cables hooked back up, manuals found, and remote programmed for the TV, too.

now i just need to program in our channel lists, so i don't have to scroll past five million PPV channels.
