Elizabeth Smart found alive.

finally. a somewhat happy ending. she's alive. she's with her family. her nine months of probable hell will probably be a Lifetime/We/Oxygen movie in a few years, but she's *alive*.

thanks for the news, [livejournal.com profile] blixa23.
Okay. I'm not in bed yet. I'm enjoying my heating pad too much and I can't take it to bed.

Anyhow, I was so busy Wednesday, I neglected to wish [livejournal.com profile] shaktiqueen a Happy Birthday!

Fortunately, it's still Wednesday where she lives. ;) HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
[livejournal.com profile] explodingcat is crouching at the front door, chittering and "rau maumaumau"ing at his favorite pet opossum.

I can yell, bark, meow, and dance at it. It doesn't go away. It did lose its balance and fall off the porch once.

i've got a headache. bleah

the acupuncturist I used to see in DC had this amazing plant. I actually had to ask her what it was--deep red triangular shaped leaves that flattened back against the stem... The stems were long, spindly, and white. The rare flower was a tiny pink or white bloom on a long stem. I LOVED IT.

She said it was an oxalis. It made sense when I loked at it. But I could never find another red oxalis. I looked at every nursery, every garden store. I NEEDED a red oxalis.

Last night, I walked into Harris Teeter and they had a display full of green oxalis (SHAMROCKS! the sign proclaimed). On a hunch, I walked around the display. AND I FOUND A RED OXALIS! There were several, actually, I took the one that whispered, "take me home..."

Tom told me I could get a special pot for it after I expounded at length about the glory of my pet plant, caressing it and promising it lush rewards. He did grin and tell me I was crazy first. BUT I WILL LOVE THIS PLANT FOREVER!

ahem.

potato kale soup is wonderful.

The assassination of Zoran Djindjic saddens me. The Balkans are a tense region and have been so off and on for decades, if not centuries. It saddens me to see the cycle perpetuate.

Freedom fries. This just showcases ignorance. French fries are french fries, not French fries. "French" refers to the cut (frenching is slicing something into thin strips, thicker than julienning) of the potato, not the country of origin.

My family never referred to sauerkraut as Liberty cabbage--probably because they're German (some arrived here with the Amish influx in colonial times, some in the 1870s--all spoke German until the 1900s and some (Amish relatives, distant) still do). Of course, my ancestors didn't change their German surnames, either.

I'm sick and tired of being in pain. There should be a limit to how much muscular pain and nerve pain one person is allowed to experience. I'm certainly taking more than my share. It's time for the pain to go away now.

I'm still waiting to see the outcome of the Georgian-Abkhazian mediations. It would be interesting to see Abkhazia completely independent, but I'm not sure how likely that is. I can remember the day Abkhazia seceded from Georgia--I was working in the Georgia Embassy when Shevardnadze called to speak to the consul. Damn situation needs to settle down so Abkhaz and Georgian wines can take over the world.

I'm really stressed over what to do with the feral kitty that has adopted us. I want her to have a safe home somewhere. I'll call some shelters soon, I guess.
