it''s a brisk and rainy evening. it's been raining since i went to bed at 5am... all day. steady. we need it so much and it won't be even a tenth of one percent of what we need, but it's great.
i made soup:
heat safflower oil in pan. toss in one chopped onion, a few cloves, 2-3 minced cloves garlic, two bay leaves, three ribs celery minced... saute til onion is transluscent and celergy fragrant. toss okra that got too dry out into the yard. add the white part of one leek (the green part dried out and turned yellow), sliced. add 1/2 oz baking chocolate. stir til chocolate is melted. add about 1/2 tsp oregano, sage, and whatever else floats your boat. toss in 1 pound fresh shelled black-eye peas, stir. add one 46oz can tomato juice and 2-3 coffee cups of water. look at it, let simmer for an hour or two. toss in a pound bag of frozen green beans at some point. stir occasionally. when the peas are cooked, add salt and freshly ground pepper. enjoy. :)
next time, i'll add cabbage, carrots, and potatoes. and maybe some beets or turnips.
boy and i are packing for the
trip to the Floyd World Music Festival. we leave tomorrow morning. garmarna is playing around 6pm. YAY!
need to remember to pack extra changes of clothing and warm stuff. high of 75, with wind and thunderstorms. floyd's at about 55 right now and will probably not hit 70 tomorrow, if it's that windy/stormy.
our hotel room for tomorrow night has a microwave and a small fridge. we'll be taking some of this soup in thermoses, i think. i bought some shelf-stable rice milk and some cereal today, since i can't eat breakfast out. have lots of cheese, vegi-deli pepperoni (meat and soy free!) sticks, and crackers. yum.
