Pictures? eeee!

Rob and I were watching chickadees build nests the other day. Too cute!
I wish I had a place for a bird feeder here.

They don't really like people, so I wasn't about to scare 'em away by opening a door.

Smart birds, to be cautious.

BTW, I was looking through your photos of flora you've got online, and they're really good. I squee'd over the wild ginger!

Thank you! I love wild ginger. I love to claim that it's slug pollinated.

Do they need a place to stay? Our two bluebird houses are still empty.

I'll let them know you have a vacancy. ;)

Oh, nifty! Great jealousy. We don't have those out here. We have jays, the cocky little bastards.

We have Eastern Blue Jays with their quirky alien song. They'll also imitate the cries of raptors to scare all the wee songbirds away, then gorge themselves at the feeder.

We have one jay who sits all fluffy and askew on the tray feeder at the kitchen window each morning, looking either hung over or extremely drunk. Tom likes him.

Clever little buggers, aren't they?

My old apt. had one huge window that was about 4 feet away from an enormous jojoba nut tree that was home to a huge population of squirrels, bushtits, sparrows, other occasional songbirds, a rat or two, and one scrub jay who liked to do his very loud SQRAAAWK thing regularly at 6 every single morning. I affectionately named him Dickhead.

He was way too big for my birdfeeder, but he could sit on it - it's just that it didn't have room for him to balance, so he would basically hang upside down and do crunches in order to reach up & peck at the food. He was so funny.

You know, it's never really occured to me that Bluebirds actually exist and aren't just cartoon characters !

Aw, I want bluebirds. They look so pretty in pictures and on Tv. I thought they were myths. ;)

Is that an Eastern Bluebird on your feeder pole, or are you just glad to see me? ;-)
