May. 3rd, 2002 08:57 pmso... got home around 11pm last night.
visit with the surgeon was good. he said my skin heals amazingly well, then asked if i was getting over chicken pox.
grrr, no. when i'm under stress, my body puts its detox functions in overdrive. this means two things: i pee a lot and my skin breaks out all over in ohsoattractive little seeping sores. my body's preferred method of detox has always been the skin route and one of my dermatologists FINALLY figured this out when i was 8 or 9. back then, the sores stuck to my arms and rear end. now they cover my body. ick.
anyhow, he refilled my dilaudid prescription. the xray shows no broken bones, so the rib pain is likely referred surgery pain + nasty internal bruising/straining. i can live with that.
the cyst was quite infected when it was removed and i peeked at my chart when he was out of the room and discovered why the vats (thoracoscopy) failed--the build-up of thick scar tissue was too dense for the scopes and remote tools to handle, which is why he opted for a mini thoracotomy (sliced open my back, spread my ribs). they did remove all of it, so i'm happy. :)
it was great to see lydia and the girls. i spent most of wednesday afternoon/evening holding bronwyn, who was very tired but didn't want to sleep. we watched law and order and VH1.
while in DC (okay, MD), we hit the container store for a refill pack of my labels and a big glass jar for my gluten... we also went to jiffy lube and got a way over-due oil change and a radiator flush. all that 30,000 mile stuff i waited 7000 miles to do. they managed to sell boy a new radiator cap (calling him Mr. Pace, hee hee), too. didn't ask me because i'm a woman, y'know. *rolls eyes*
my mother in law and brother in law are here. very nice. :) i get along very well with mom and john is insane in that nice, mountain man way. he's got lots of stupid stories which make tom laugh lots.
we went out for dinner... started to sit outside, but got too cold, so we moved indoors (almost empty). i had pizza, john had a little bit of everyone's dish in addition to his salad, bread, and ravioli, mom had penne with mushrooms, and tom ate out for the first time in four months. :) he had linguine with garlic and olive oil. he ate some bread, too!!!! wheeee! another milestone in his food allergies-no-it's-anxiety ordeal.
went to whole foods for our weekly shopping trip. bought the week's yogurt.
i forgot that we already HAD lots of yogurt.
eep
now we have a hella lotta yogurt.
mom bought soymilk for john. grrrrr... i try to keep poison OUT of my house, dammit.
ah, well.
she pitched in for groceries, so we bought extra meat for the two of 'em (i don't eat any), in addition to tom's ration.
it's nice to have them here. they made their own beds (tom and john dragged a mattress into tom's office so the two guests could have separate spaces) and will be able to fend for themselves for breakfast. i told tom he can wake me up by 10am. i won't get my 15-16 hours of sleep that's been usual, but i'll survive.
anything is better than yesterday... 7 hours of sleep, busy day... and then tom was too agitated to drive (he missed his exit on the beltway, so we had to cut cross country through virginia to get back to 66--i made it work, though, and got us to a walmart, where i stocked up on food for driving)... then *I* drove for 1.5 hours... finally gave up because i could barely keep my eyes open and i couldn't read any signs. fortunately, we were within an hour of home and boy knew the roads, so he was comfortable with driving by then. i nodded off occasionally for the rest of the trip. waking up in time to say "we drive on the RIGHT side, buster" and "deer on the right!"
ahh, busy times.

Date: 2002-05-06 07:45 pm (UTC)the 15-16 seems to be a healing thing. right now i'm exhausted and can actually sleep.
the double dose of melatonin, narcotics, and such might all have something to do with it, too. ;)
i figure i'll fall back into insomnia one of these days. for now, i'm sleeping... a lot.
i'm also resting more. it's almost like a cfids crash, but i don't feel as brainfoggy as usual. i do have the temperature fluctuation, exhaustion, and such, though.
so it goes. ;
