Good things about today:

[livejournal.com profile] explodingcat has albuterol
[livejournal.com profile] explodingcat has a peak flow ABOVE normal/good/healthy, even when he feels he's having moderately annoying asthma symptoms (I blame yoga and the voice training)
• [livejournal.com profile] explodingcat is no longer freaking out, especially now that the doctor has told him he's doing really well

• Jericho and [livejournal.com profile] explodingcat enjoy the attention of hot young first-years
• Jericho loves the combination of a car ride + walk around campus + car ride + dog park
• I got coffee.

• Jericho loves the dog park
• Jericho doesn't mind other dogs, even though he's not a wrestler
• Jericho is not a humper.

• I GOT TO SEE DOGGIES AT THE DOG PARK!
• Bloodhounds have very mushy mouths and can hide things they shouldn't have very easily, but will spit them out as soon as you give up
• *bounce* *bounce* *bounce* *bounce* *bounce* *bounce* *bounce* *bounce* *bounce* *bounce*

My recommendation would be for http://www.allthingspawssible.com/ - the trainer, Karen, is ADORED by doggies, she is very good about giving advice for special issues, she trains dog handlers at the SPCA and her classes are not expensive. There's a good chance she may remember me and Nienna, we've taken ALL of her classes because Nienna was crazily happy about going to her school!!! Karens classes are usually high energy and fun (no, I don't mean running, but exciting for YOU as well - not the boring "this is how you teach a dog to sit in your house" kinda training but "you're in the woods and a sqirrel passes by, what will you do" kind!)!

Her school is also a doggie day-care and, even though I haven't done that - I've heard from many people that having their dogs there once a week was the best thing they've done - if Jericho is having separation anxiety problems, this may be a perfect way to have a doggy-free day without making him all stressed out about being left alone!!!

The second trainer I would recommend would be Tara with http://www.gooddog-training.com/ - one class we've done with her is the Canine Good Citizen course, so it was very different than training with Karen (CGC is more about calming your dog and getting them used to being around other dogs, people jogging, wheelchairs etc etc.). I wouldn't recommend this class for an "obedience begginer", but would recommend having the CGC class and test passed eventually, especially if you plan to travel with your doggy. Tara may also remember us, she gave me contacts for possible schools here (if you can't tell, I am addicted to doggy training, Nienna LOVES going to school - we've already done one class here, and are about to get into agility!!!)! We haven't had time to schedule the CGC test in Cville after her class (it ended right before we were about to move to this coast!), so I need to e-mail her and tell her Nienna has finally gotten her CGC here!!! She also works with Karen occasionally so, between the two of them, you can give your doggy the BEST care there is training-wise!!!

You probably didn't really need this much info, ha?! :)

Nienna had many friends at Azalea (and some dogs she REALLY didn't get along with, she is a rough player and has pissed off a few people so much I wouldn't be surprised if you hear about a monster pit-bull that used to come to the park!!!) - one you will certainly recognize if you ever run into them would be Sultan - an over-100-pound Anatolian shepherd - if you do see them, please say HI for me!!!! Nienna and Sultan were in puppy school together, with Sultan starting the class at half Niennas size, and finishing the 4-week course TWICE her size!!!!

OK, I'll stop now, I can go on about dogs forever!!!!

I do hope I get to meet Jericho when I come!!! :)
