I'm that person. You know, the one with the perfectly coordinated outfit and the shoes that don't match.

yesterday, it was a black crinoline under a black velvet skirt, black lace shirt under a black open crochet wide-sleeve sweater . . . black over-the-knee socks and red legwarmers. And my new balance shoes.

Today, it shall be black denim miniskirt, black undershirt with hot pink trim, another open-weave sweater, black tights, and planet print fleece legwarmers. and my new balance shoes.

Oh, well. My New Balance country walkers were expensive and the soles of my Stonefly mary janes are now uneven. I can't afford yet *another* $100 pair of shoes this year, so the NB it shall be.

I cringe whenever I put them on and take them off and catch sight of them, but it's better to walk with slightly less pain, ne?

I wish shoe companies could make comfortable shoes in cool colors. Come on--the 974 would look so awesome in black with purple and silver accents. They make *some* country walking/adventure shoes in darker colors, but they're different styles and the extra/higher/lower lace hook placement puts really nasty pressure on some of my trigger points. Nerve pain doesn't belong with comfort shoes.

Yes, I agree, shoe comfort should be a huge priority for you.

That said, damn, I haven't really been a shoe lust kind of person, but now I want those Stonefly shoes.

They were perfect for me. So freakin' comfortable. I wasn't a fan of the velcro, but I discovered it made it easy to get my shoes on and off when my fingers weren't happy. Of course, my hair gets all caught in the hook side, but that's life.

oh come on girl, you never look bad, shoes or not. Besides people would just think that you are in a Mennonite cult or at least offshoot.

Have you tried some of the "slip on" walking shoes from Ryka or Nike? I finally found the perfect shoe for me and then found out that it had been discontinued. It's the Nike ACG slip-on walking shoe. It's comfortable and supportive, yet fashionable enough that I don't feel totally awkward walking into work or church with them on.

I'm currently in search of a good-looking high-ankle shoe that I can wear to work and/or church as I've been rolling my ankles quite frequently. It's either find a better shoe or start wearing braces every day.

I have custom orthoses, so no slip-on shoes.

that's a bummer :( I'm working with my new podiatrist on finding the right orthoses to wear when I'm out of my shoes. When my arch collapses, my knee goes right along with it these days. Even without arch supports, my shoes all give me enough support to prevent that from happening most of the time, but when I'm walking around in just my socks, I need something to help keep it from happening.

My podiatrist gets upset that I don't wear shoes at home. It's just not *done*. It's so much easier to keep things tidy and polite without shoes. I wear thick, foamy slippers when my feet are achy and I *will* put on shoes if the pain is intense, so that I can wear my orthoses.

It's one of those odd things. Like, whenever I picture you at the computer, I don't see you at a desk. I think you're like me that you're somewhere with your legs stretched out on a couch or something similar. If I did wear my shoes inside my apartment, I'd be taking them off and on each time I stood up and sat down as I'm certainly not going to put my dirty shoes on my bed (where I have my little lounging area).

I have a pair of Ryka clogs that I now use as my "slipper" shoe when I'm outside of my apartment taking out the trash, doing laundry, etc. I totally dig Ryka lately as they make an 11 Wide that actually fits and they don't have too many shoes with evil seams down the side that mess with my polydactile scar.

i have a laptop and sit on the couch. we have recliners at both ends of the couch, so I'm usually back in the recliner, with legs curled up on the couch part (i like to lean back, but get achy all stretched out).

I'd chip into a Shod Krasota Stylishly fund. It would be like a group Winter-Holiday present!

Can you get the Mary Janes resoled? Or couldn't you just cut your feet off and learn to levitate?

I'm all for levitation.

It would take care of nerve pain shooting up from the heels too!

They're a special kind of sole. They're also glued on. I'm not sure what the company would charge for a re-sole, nor if they even do them. And I think Stonefly might be Italian. The sizing is european, I know, and the leather is Italian. ;)

they are super shoes. I say we hold a fundraiser for you to get more.

See, though, they're not necessary. I have shoes. And, to tell the truth, if I tell boy that I MUST have them, he'd let me get them. He prefers that we avoid the intensely painful foot problems that got to the point of my podiatrist considering prescribing a wheelchair. (Like MAMSI would pay for THAT.) I'd rather put the money toward a house downpayment, though. We can easily budget in a pair of shoes, I just don't *want* to.

Chances are pretty good that I'll flat out insist on them one of these days, as being mobile is a necessity. But good shoes that are good for snow would be a better buy. Stonefly will be around next year, etc.

When I already have serviceable shoes, I view additional shoes as a frivolous expense.

"When I already have serviceable shoes, I view additional shoes as a frivolous expense."

I know how that is. But your feet are worse than mine, and I have twenty years on you. Serviceable shoes are that. What are you wearing when it snows? I really wasn't kidding when I said that we need a fundraiser. My insurance allows me to do alot more to help my condition. For instance, they are paying for finger splints that cost a pretty penny that I would have never been able to afford by myself to help with my flexion deformities in my hands. You are so together with your knowledge of your disease it is totally unfair that you cannot get what you need to stay mobile.

I would do anything I can to help with disability papers if you decide to file. Lord knows you deserve it.

Are you getting your finger splints through the silver splint company or someone else? I've been looking at getting some new ones that they have for flexion at the joint where the finger meets the rest of the hand. I don't have bad hyperflexion on any of the other finger joints.

If it's a reputable company with proprietary soles, I bet they do resoling. It has to cost less than a new pair of shoes (says the girl who hasn't gotten around to resoling her Kenneth Cole proprietary-soled MJs in the past two years). Aside from that, I bet a really good cobbler could do it even if the soles are glued on, not stitched.

Man, I hear ya. I miss my FUN shoes - my shiny blue platforms, my black vinyl thigh high heeled boots, my crazy sexy strappy sandals... now, it's new balance tennies for me most of the time, too. Sometimes I can get away with slip on tennies, and really good sandals or boots in the summer or winter. But it's just not the same. And if I'm going to be walking more than a few minutes at a given time, it has to be the new balance shoes. I hate the way athletic-ey shoes look, too. Meh.
Not that I can wear interesting clothing at all much of the time anyway, either. Nothing that irritates the skin or constricts too much or isn't warm enough or cool enough or - blah. It's frustrating. I go out in my pajamas half the time now, because that's the only thing that's comfortable!
Anyway, sorry, went off on my own rant there...

I thought your outfit yesterday was HOT, in a "I dress spooky while exercising" kinda way. It looked fine to me! :D
