I think that after boy eats and after I shower, we're going to go for a walk somewhere so that he can do reading for class. He told me coffee or another beverage can be acquired, even though our budget is extremely tight right now.

I should probably get out of the house and actually stretch a bit. It would be good for me.

I'll take a book. I'm reading MiƩville's The Iron Council right now. I've just been reading it at night.

Now that the students are back, Starbucks is loud and busy again. Is there another coffee type spot that would be *quieter* in the evenings? Mudhouse doesn't qualify--plus their chocolate syrup tastes horrid.

Actually sound isn't so much the issue . . . it's the general feel. It can be loud, so long as it's cozy and I can feel removed from a lot of activity. I don't want the tea house tonight--incense is annoying.

Didn't Higher Grounds pick up evening hours? I could be wrong (and it's not easy for me to check just now), but I thought they were going to.

They have a new name and aren't open many evenings. I haven't noticed a regular schedule. When they are open in the evening, they're mobbed.

Cafe Cubano? I'm pretty sure they are open until 10 most nights. I have not found it to be crowded inside, especially on nice days.

That's true, Jean, Kristina, and I went there one night when the Downtown Mall was _packed_ and there was no one else there. It's quite a nice setting and the baristae are very friendly.

That's funny, I just finished a book last night and now I'm in that awkward "which book do I start now" phase.

There's a great coffee/tea cafe in Pasadena that I miss. Good coffee, really good tea, they often have little jazz emsembles playing their and it's generally a quieter crowd. I wish I could get there again sometime. Scarbucks scares me!

There's Java Java on Ivy. It's cosy, clean, and has pretty wood.

:o) [livejournal.com profile] nonelf lives there too.

Ooo...The Iron Council. How is it? I've got it waiting for me at the library, but won't be able to pick it up till Thursday.
