Local folks, if you are eligible and wish to do so, please consider donating to [livejournal.com profile] mustelidmania. She's receiving chemo now and will need lots of platelets. Your blood type need not match hers--platelets are cool like that.

[livejournal.com profile] solieri writes:
If you live in or around the Charlottesville, Virginia area, you can contact Virginia Blood Services or UVA Hospital (as soon as I get the numbers, I'll post them here, but no doubt they're in the phone book) and ask for information on how to donate blood to reserve for Sharon Elizabeth Allen.

Sharon is one of the neatest ladies I know. She serves as surrogate goth mother to many a Cville goth. She's also been a rescue ferret mommy for years *and* raised two lovely young men all on her own. She's been pretty sick, though, and we're hoping that she starts to feel much better in a few months.

There's more information in her journal and in [livejournal.com profile] solieri's. [livejournal.com profile] rozzgoth might have info, too--I haven't checked today.

I can't donate--the CDC and Red Cross still fear an unknown pathogen in fibro/CFIDS. So, I'm encouraging YOU to donate.

If you aren't local and are eligible, please consider donating blood or platelets to your local blood center. I understand completely that some folks have political and other personal reasons against donating, but those who feel comfortable with it--please give.

Wow

Hi there,

I just clicked on the "Latest Post" links - This is not a habitual thing; I was just bored. Yours was the first entry and I saw Charlottesville. I was like "Oh, wow! Coincidence!" and then I looked to see if it was by chance anyone I knew, and I don't think you are. But it was weird - I saw your name was Krasota and then your interests included Russian stuff and queer! I'm a gay Russian major at UVA!

So anyway, I've never like randomly commented to anyone before but I thought it was too weird. I'm also taking it as a sign - We gay guys aren't supposed to give blood, but I will try to make it in next week to donate for your friend. That is just too much of a coincidence for it not to be meaningful! Best of luck for her recovery, and take care!

Fabulous!

Thanks. :)

I didn't go to UVA, but I have a degree in Russian/Area studies, too. How do you like Cville?

Actually, I've lived in Charlottesville all my life, so it's just like a continuation of high school (minus the whole living with parents thing).

BTW, I live in the Russian House and we host a Russian Tea every Wednesday from 7-9, so if you ever feel the urge to practice your Russkij, come on out!

Oh, strange... I donate regularly, and always list fibro as a medical condition, and they never refuse me for it.

Aw, sweetie...you know I'd donate if I weren't out to there with the lil' one.

I am very into the idea of donating blood, but I wouldn't be allowed to because of the "sex with men" thing.

That makes me uncomfortable that they ask that question. It's like they aren't going to test your blood anyway.

Even if I was still a virgin, I get piercings too often to ever donate blood.

I can still donate my bone marrow in most states though, but Delaware doesn't have any program for that which I am aware of.

I got into apheresis donation by a similar route, for a FOAF with cancer.

I wish I could still do it!

Every time I find someone else posting about this on their journal, I realize that I have the greatest friends ever.

Thank you, dearie. . .
