My email is down. It has been down for over 14 hours. Not that being without access is more than frustrating, but it appears they had some kind of major hardware failure and any mail stored on the server (like, oh, list administrator stuff and eBay notices (I did bid on an item last thursday and the auction ended fri or sat) is irretrievably gone. Any mail sent since about 1pm has been bounced. If it was sent from a server which attempts resends, I might get it when the damn hosting company gets their gear in order.

I normally POP my mail off the server, but I didn't have my computer this weekend, so I just checked webmail sporadically (not often at all).

I'm switching most of my mail things over to my other accounts.

Anyone who needs to contact me can use krasota at: livejournal dot com, gothik dot org, or ninehells dot com.

I don't think boy needs any more convincing over our need to switch web/mail hosts.

Anyone who wants to know-- your-site.com sucks syphilitic donkey balls. Sure, they're nice, but they don't provide very good service. Yes, they're inexpensive, but I'd rather have reliable bare-bones service than spotty service which provides non-existent bells and whistles.

Send the boy to go look at ninehells.com for hosting needs during his considerations... (;

I'm going to be going with hub.org shortly for wanderingstar.net. I've heard good things about them, and their bronze plan seems quite reasonable at $99 per year considering all the bells and whistles. I already signed us up at work for this.

I've already got two providers in the running based on on-line acquaintance and professionalism. ;)

[livejournal.com profile] hellsop is trying to convince me to put him in the number one spot, which is currently held by [livejournal.com profile] dissolvedgrrl.

i might have to add "and who will bake me cookies" to that list, but that's probably not really fair, since I think Peter would actually do it.

i need to be able to have multiple email accounts (at least eight) and need POP3, which might knock Peter out of the running. I will *not* use my ISP (adelphia) email address as it's highly unreliable.

Hub looks interesting. In the event LJ folks can't come through, I might consider using Hub. Have you read any reviews? The fact that they're in NS makes me happy. ;)

I haven't read any reviews except for some positive comments about them on slashdot, which is how I found out about them. (Slashdot is also how I found out about godaddy.com, which is one of the better domain registrars.) Personally, I like the fact that the guy who runs the company, Marc Fournier, appears to be an active member of the open source community, and I also *really* like how open they are about their server uptimes and such.

My own experience with them at work started negatively, but that was just because I tried signing up when a lot of people were on vacation between Christmas and New Year's (which turned out to be my bad anyway since I was trying to contact people directly instead of going through their trouble ticket process). They've been very helpful and prompt in their e-mails now that I'm going through the proper channels, though.

List me as a referral if you join! :)
