I took [livejournal.com profile] explodingcat over to [livejournal.com profile] solieri's place. I think they're doing some recording. I hope boy doesn't become contaminated with soy. He forgot to remind Patrick to not touch soy and then touch the microphone he borrowed earlier without washing his hands/mouth. Dammit. I almost told him he couldn't bring it back home until he washed it completely, but I don't want to force him to ruin/toss a perfectly good mike just because it might make me sick.

My feet hurt. It's cold out and I don't have any *warm* boots. I wore thick socks with my 20i docs, but it wasn't enough. Before we left, I shovelled the front walk (scraped it, really). Over an inch of snow had fallen in an hour, so we had nearly three inches on the ground. If we get sleet, it will compact, so I wanted to at least scrape the snow to the side and put down some salt.

When I came back, I filled both bird feeders. I looked for the new suet I bought (hot pepper) last week to put in the new suet cage I bought tonight, but can't find it. I wanted to hang it on the tree so I can look out the window tomorrow and see the woodpeckers. They fly over to the hanging suet cage (where the squirrels can't get it), but I know I'd see them more frequently on the tree.

I'm a bit cranky. My lips are chapped and my allergies have been acting up. I get that way sometimes. I have ICQ open and my mood will probably improve as the night goes on.

My feet really *hurt*. So does my neck. Where do I apply for a new musculoskeletal system?

technically, they're supposed to all use non-latex gloves or no gloves at all. they don't use nitrile (too expensive), rather plastic or vinyl. it depends on the regional managers, etc. some of them here in virginia are not safe. those tend to be franchise locations, rather than national ones, or something. i do *not* eat at Pizza Bell or kentucky taco hut. ;)

Corporate policy for Taco Bell to not use latex gloves or is that becoming a new industry standard?

Why anyone would eat at one of those mixed places is beyond me. *shudder*

Several years ago, no latex was a corporate policy for Taco Bell. I was assured of this via phone and letter, but I've lost the letter since. I should call and ask again, I suppose.

Franchise locations are exempt from corporate policies like that.

Hmm...interestingly I found that Oregon, Rhode Island and Arizona have outlawed the use of latex gloves in restaurants (you probably already knew that).

Franchise loccations seem to also be exempt from quality control and taste requirements,. *shudder*

I didn't know about Oregon! WOOHOO!

It's actually quite hard to get bans like that in place. The rubber industry vigorously lobbies against those of us who try to get such things into place.

This has just been on my mind lately because my best friend from high school's husband has a latex allergy. When they were going to the hospital for childbirth classes, he would wear a light filtration mask and still get nosebleeds from the latex dust in the air. She ended up having a scheduled C-section, and luckily her OB/GYN also has a latex allergy--so they were able to make the OR and her hospital room as safe as possible for Dad.

Naturally this effects little things like what kind of diapers they can buy for the baby, etc. Their daughter's birthday was this weekend, and I actually ended up calling up a toy manufacturer to check a specific pull along dog toy for latex (it had it hidden it, so that present was null and void). Ginsey got nice wooden puzzles instead. :-)
