[livejournal.com profile] explodingcat: I'm going to develop a Tai Chi form that uses cleavers.

This is what happens when I say, "but honey, you don't need a meat cleaver.

every house needs a cleaver.... If nothing else, they're *wonderful* for opening squashes and small melons. (Watermelons necessitate hauling out the machete.)

I'm surprised he didn't say he wanted a set to juggle with!

That's exactly the same knife I fell in love with on that site, despite the fact that I don't eat meat!

You might want to remind him that Tai Chi involved swords, not cleavers.

*ducks*

It will involve cleavers when I'm done with it! I'm sure any of the sword (possibly even fan) forms could be adapted to the meat cleaver.

You could adapt the form for what I have heard called the broadsword. It is a single edged, slightly curved, short, thick blade. More chopping moves than the slicing/stabbing of the long, double-edged sword forms.

Yeah, broadsword would work. I don't think my Tai Chi group teaches that blade though. They do teach the straight double edged sword forms. But the single blade of the broadsword is probably closer to the single blade of the cleaver. Maybe there are some knife forms... short blade and single edge...

Wow... that's a nifty cleaver. Are they gonna teach that in the first class?
