okay... i pretty much don't call my doctor up for an appointment unless i'm absolutely miserable. in other words, when ubiquitous sinus infection reaches the "let's give you a sinus migraine" stage, i call. when my pain hits 10 or 10+ on a scale of 1-10 (a decent example here), i call.
otherwise, i call for routine things--yearly gy exam, referrals to the allergist/dermatologist...
i cope with and manage my pain as much as I can. i do this through various means--meds (rarely), meditation/progressive relaxation, talking/venting with a loved one, etc.
now, when pain and nausea AWAKEN me and, after an hour, i'm still curled up in the fetal position, crying and gasping... well, it's ER time. second time in eight days for me... *sigh*
and when the ER staff lets me SIT there for FOUR hours without giving me any pain relief... well, even boy will get off his shy little duff and request that something be done to alleviate my pain before i suffocate from trying not to breathe. the staff brought me ibuprofen, despite the big "NO IBUPROFEN" comments all over my bracelet (hospital provided, very sexy) and chart... then i was given darvocet and a script for 10 more darv pills.
i don't think this is the same thing i had last week... it's deeper now... lower... feels like the iron band around my ribs is trying to crack one or two when i breathe... and the pain seems to affect my diaphragm and abdominal muscles, too. lying down makes breathing darn near impossible...
and the nausea. i've been praying (to the porcelain god, of course) to actually vomit so that i'll get some modicum of relief.
i think the ceftin the on-call doc prescribed is making the nausea worse, so i'm not gonna take it. ginger ale will suffice for now. if i feel like chewing in a little while, i'll eat some gari. otherwise, i might give boy instructions on making a strong ginger tea to freeze into ice cubes. that usually helps.
and, since i'm on loopy drugs again, i'll have to go to work with boy tomorrow (if i can make it out the door) in case i can get an appt with my doctor. if i can't get up in the morning, boy will drive to work so that he can leave at a moment's notice to come get me.
i hate disrupting his schedule. he loves his rigid schedules.
on the bright side, his love for rigid, set in stone, boring old mundane schedules means that he's actually kind of looking forward to a rotation diet free of corn. he's made up lists for days i-iv... eating certain food families on day i, others on day ii, and so forth, until he can repeat. hopefully, this will give his system time to calm down... and maybe his body will decide to stop adding allergies.
