the pool went well today. i swam four short lengths (the lap pool is quite short). i knew i needed to stop then, even though i love the water. CFIDS restrains me. we hopped into the whirlpool for a few minutes to loosen up our limbs.

i cut my nails on saturday. there were 1/2" long. they were at that "we're going to bend back beneath the quick if you so much as look at us" point, so i managed a pre-emptive strike. this will also help prolong the life of my new pearly purple silicone swiim cap. my new goggles are opalescent with purple mirrored lenses. my swimsuit is purple, but i might need to look for another, since the straps want to fall when i'm doing the backstroke.

[livejournal.com profile] nothingoth needs to hear the swimsuit water extraction machine. boy's going to look for one in the men's lockerroom... someday, you'll have to tag along on free guest day.

if this pounding rain and wind doesn't leave my joints stiff in the morning/afternoon/whenever i awaken, i'll try to go again tomorrow. if i can get into the habit, i'll be very happy. i know i'll never be one to swim competitively again, nor am i likely to ever be *that* fit again, but it would be nice to maybe have some chance of not being in a constant fibro flare.

i like the whirlpool. i can see myself asking boy to drag me down there on really bad fibro days...

i bought a padlock afterwards... i need flipflops/shower shoes, but can't figure out where to find them this time of year.

Target ought to have flip-flops on clearance right now. :)

we don't have a target. i'm guessing the nearest one would be somewhere in Richmond or Fredericksburg.

Dollar store? Target has cheapish wooden flipflops for their geisha-style costume, but I don't think those would be good for poolside (though they'd be very stylish).

We've still got the good ole' rubber type in our store in Fayetteville. If all else fails, I could mail some to you. I think they are about a dollar now!:D Old Navy had some rubber ones as well.

Oh, I'll pass on the rubber ones. No rubber for me. Thanks, though.

Yeah, I went to Ricky's for new squishy flip-flops (Sugar shoes!! yummy), and they'd replaced the entire rack with Halloween costumes. Eeek! So soon.

My mum (also a fibro sufferer) is the same way. Eventually (this past fall) my parents redid their bathroom to put in a big bathtub with whirpooly goodness. I hope this whirlpool helps you.

You used to swim competitively? When was that?

What's a swimsuit water extraction machine look like? I've never seen one before.

And YAY! something to relieve you on bad fibro days. I know it won't completely relieve you, but I'm so glad you have something to help.

I swam for a league team in early high school (my school had no pool).

The swimsuit extraction machine is a big chrome box. There's a lid in the top which ones lifts and places one's suit into a cylinder reminiscent of a colander. pack it down, then close the lid, which turns on the switch. The machine make a loud and ancient rumbling sound as the cylinder spins rapidly, then one lifts the lid and removes the suit.

*imagines standing wet and naked with a giant vibrating machine in front of him* COOL!

The water extraction machine we used to use (back when I could swim -- sigh) was just an old-fashioned dual-roller thingy like people'd use for squeezing the water out after a wash. Weeee.

I miss swimming. I wish it wouldn't flare me.

i remember the old rollers. i can't use those since they were usually rubber.
