Some of my friends are celebrating today, some will celebrate tomorrow. I'll celebrate tomorrow.

We'll have colcannon and, perhaps, bannock. If the farmer's market has corn tonight, I'll buy some. We'll eat the ears and use the husks for decoration. We'll provide thanks for the harvest and hope to ward off hunger for the next year. I've already been enjoying the berries (one of the first harvests of this time of year) for awhile. Maybe I can pick some more sometime soon.

Right now, I'm cleaning. It's needed. I like for the house to be a bit cleaner than it has been of late. There's not much I can do as I'm normally too tired to clean and boy isn't inclined to do much besides tidy up and wash dishes. I appreciate that, but *cleaning* is more important to me than tidying. Why is it that I'm the only one who knows how to *clean* in this house? Ah, well. I've taught him how to scrub the tub. Maybe he'll practice doing that tonight while I'm watching Chicago. That would make me very happy.

Ah, well. I'll have a clean kitchen and dining room, at least. And then we can enjoy our ritual colcannon together and look forward to the rest of the harvest and the onset of autumn.

Blessings to all!

What exactly are colcannon and bannock? I've heard of them several times but don't know exactly what they are.

I think my own personal celebration of Lughnasa won't be till the weekend, as I likely won't get fresh produce till I go to my mum's to raid her garden or I go to the farmer's market Sunday. I suppose it could be said I celebrated southern-hempisphere Imbolc today, since I did a good deal of tidying up around here.

colcannon = greens (cabbage or kale or mustard) and leeks and potatoes, all boiled up and mashed with milk and butter.

bannock = griddle cakes/oatcakes. sort of like un-sweet scones.
