itchiness

I really hate Oral Allergy Syndrome.

I'm reacting to carrots... carrots normally never cause a reaction for me, but now my lips and tongue and throat are burning, itching, and my lips are swelling. :( I'm allergic to birch, which isn't pollinating right now, and mugwort (relatives of which *are*)...

I haven't been able to eat fresh cantaloupe, peaches, mango nectarines, apples, nectarines, bananas, or avocados lately, all because of cross-reactions. I even reacted to tomatoes earlier this week. I guess I need to go back on antihistamines. I went off because going on prednisone for a week made the hives go away. I also went off because oral antihistamines have very little affect on allergic rhinitis, which is one of my main symptoms, and second/third-gen antihistamines don't control my skin reactions well.

Guess they were keeping *most* of the OAS at bay, though. I just made the connection now. *sigh*

Fresh fruit is one of my few joys this time of year. I guess going on meds is worth it.

Thanks. :) fortunately, most of my traditional eczema is caused by two things: food allergies and prednisone. I'm not on prednisone right now, so that's not a problem. And I try to avoid eating things I'm allergic to (I like to breathe), so that's okay. ;) i used to get eczema-like lesions from UVA light, but that's passed, thankfully.

The dishidrotic eczema isn't anything I can really control diet-wise. I have the ointment the doc gave me. Sun seems to make it worse, but it could be that water makes it worse. *shrug* It's very different from plain old eczema.
