As a test, I shall share the song boy wrote and frequently sings. Since he doesn't know Russian, it doesn't make much sense. Well, it makes sense in that he's silly.

I then majored in Russian/Area Studies (a joint Int'l Service/Language/Lit/History degree program) at The American University in DC.
-Oh, cool! I had no idea that you had studied so much Russian. (Actually, I had no idea that you had studied any Russian until you posted about your problems with the characters displaying properly.)

Also, here's the "verdict." I have tried viewing this entry in both Explorer 5.1 and Netscape 7.0, in both OS X and OS 9. In both browsers, it worked fine in OS X; in both browsers, I just got a string of ?s in OS 9.
