Almost finished reading Joe Haldeman's The Forever War

The negative light on homosexuality is leaving a bad taste in my mouth, but I'll finish the book because I want to know how it ends.

Today, must shower, eat, and meet up with Sarah. Also much pack up sheets and clothing and put in car. Tonight is Tomahawk. Yay!

Doors open at 7:30... since I need to have a seat, I'll get there aroun 6:30 to wait in line at the curb. The 930 club will not make any guarantees on seating (it's a standing venue, but there are a handful of bar stools upstairs and down), even for folks with disabilities or chronic illness. That always drives me nuts, but when we lived in DC, I just picked up dinner on the way and took a book with me while I sat and ate and read and waited.

I'm tired. No clue what time we went to bed, but I managed to sleep in til noon.

I should've taken fil up on his offers of tea, but I wasn't in the mood.

It's grey and rainy out right now. Blah, that will not make waiting outside fun.

It's been over 20 years since I read "The Forever War", but as I recall, homosexuality was played in a fairly positive light, especially for when the book was first published. (c 1975, IIRC)

Yeah, the homosexuality is a large (and oddly handled) theme of that book. The author is a little wacky. If I recall, a physics teacher who lost his legs in Vietnam.
Great book really, so dark and bleak, I loved the logistics of fighting a war relativistically.

Negative? Long time since I read it and I may not have been as sensitive to such things then, but the only thing I recall is that homosexuality replaced heterosexuality as the norm and our aging protagonist was called an old pervert by the new, young recruits.

What have I forgotten?
