May. 9th, 2003 10:27 amSaw the orthopaedic surgeon. he wants me to see a foot specialist (duh!), but he says the UVA guy in his practice is too damn busy and it would take too long for me to see him and he understands that I want to be fixed ASAP. so he tried to refer me to a podiatrist his wife sees. that guy doesn't take my insurance. so the surgeon's nurse called around and discovered that a fairly well respected local podiatrist/pedorthist *does* take my insurance. and i have an *afternoon* appointment in a week and a half.
only some of my old records made it to this office. i tried to fax this week to request records from georgetown, but the faxes never went through. yesterday, i discovered that georgetown med center changed all their prefixes *this week*... so i got the new numbers. the neuro number still didn't work, but the orthopaedic number did. and that was the important info. it got faxed, the new ortho gave me a copy and told me to take it to the podiatrist. i need to call my doctor for a referral slip.
and i've discovered something while looking at the records from last year... i now have a cavus foot. as a teenager, i had *flat* feet. apparently, they've changed substantially. how interesting. i knew my foot size changed significantly (went down a size and a half or so), which was something i attributed to loss of baby fat...
boy and i were laughing at the terms. cavus foot. equinus contracture.... we started making jokes about guinea pigs and horses... i'm not sure where it went. i didn't sleep enough to remember.
so... i need to draft a new letter to my neurologist and ask to have my records forwarded to my GP. my fax (which didn't go through) requested both that my nerve study results be sent to the ortho and that my records be sent to my GP. no need to send stuff to the ortho now, just send it all to my GP.
and i know that my GP is going to make me see a neurologist again. nerve pain and twinges and travelling nerve pain shouldn't be ignored. he wants this investigated thoroughly. he understands my hesitation (basically, the tests that I haven't had done can only be done at Johns Hopkins), but he also pointed out that i didn't HAVE the neuralgia to the point i do now. now i can feel nerve impulses racing down my limbs at times and it *hurts*. i should also call him to find out the results of my labwork last week.
my face is really red. i'm rashy near my joints. i really hope that UV sensitivity hasn't returned. i'm going to be VERY disappointed.
i want my feet to be fixed. i've put on 10 pounds in the last year and i don't like it. losing weight is difficult for me because i'm so sedentary *and* because it causes detoxing that makes me break out in sores and rashes. but i don't want to put on more weight and i don't want to have to buy new clothing (i can't fit into some of my skirts that don't have elastic waists and i don't wear elastic if i can help it). plus most weight i put on is in my torso, primarily my boobs. boob weight is super hard for me to lose. i don't think i've ever lost boobage, even when i've lost 30-40 pounds total body weight. my hips and ass are the first to go, my belly the last. my boobs just don't go anywhere. *sigh*
and since i can't exercise, the fibro pain is spiralling out of control. it's already harder to cope with it since i'm putting so much energy toward nerve pain. i don't need all this right now.
if i feel up to it, i think i might go down to the fifth st ext video shop and open an account. boy needs to see the first XMen.
Ooof. I can't believe it's not noon yet.

Date: 2003-05-09 08:52 am (UTC)I really hope they're able to get to the bottom of some of these problems and find some SOLUTIONS . . . it's so frustrating to have it drag on forever with no resolution, and I know you've been in more and more pain :/
What is a "cavus foot"? Has your foot become less flat and more arched?

Date: 2003-05-10 01:34 am (UTC)secondly, that's interesting about your feet. my feet are smaller than they once were and i thought i was just weirdly deformed in some way. oh - and did you have to do a lot of exercises for your flat feet? because my uncle had flat feet, and he ended up with high arches after doing crazy amounts of exercises on them and such like.
sending you *good luck* too... as much as i can spare...
