I have an appointment with the orthopoedic surgeon for next Friday. My doctor also wants me to see a neurologist, but I asked to hold off on that and take care of one thing at a time. I pointed out that the MRI, CT, EMG/NCV didn't point out anything spectacular a year ago, so there's no point in rushing. My other nerve problems have taken this long to manifest and they can wait awhile longer. He thinks it will be easy to make my insurance cover the orthotics, since the problem is caused by a skeletal anomaly and a nerve problem. He seems to like manipulating insurance companies in order to provide his patients with decent care. I do like that about him.
He'll eventually refer me to the pain clinic or someone else. I pointed out that when I get my feet straightened out, I'll be able to exercise again, which will make a dramatic difference in the fibro and sleep. There's really no point in starting up with a new pain clinic when my pain levels are going to fluctuate wildly over the next few months.
Told him about the chronic hives, but said I don't feel like going off antihistamines (for more allergy testing, whatnot) while spring pollens are so icky. Thanked him for the eyedrops he called in a few weeks ago. He agrees the skin stuff can wait, but I know my body and should call if anything changes.
He gave me nexium samples. If this doesn't work, he'll either give me more samples or send me to a GI specialist.
Got blood drawn, checking b-12, folate, cholesterol, and some other standard things.
And I have a temporary handicap permit. Doc filled out the paperwork and boy dropped me off at the DMV on the way back home. I called him and he picked me up afterwards. Now I can go out to eat on the DT mall far more easily. :) And I can go to the store to pick up one or two items without fearing a long walk.
Now, I'm going to go make lumpia. Or attempt to, anyhow. Shrimp-free, of course.
