On a whim, explodingcat and I went to see Russian Ark at UVA.

I enjoyed it. I'm still thinking about it. I typically do that. ;)

Boy's comment? "This was my typical Russian film experience. I have no idea what's going on, then the film ends and I think, 'Wow' and it all makes sense and comes together."

I highly recommend it, I can say that. Boy says that his lack of knowlege in Russian history and literature didn't prevent him from enjoying the film, so don't let something like that stop you. ;)

Wasn't that movie marvelous? I actually *cried* when I first recognized Pushkin frantically chasing after Natalia Nikolayevna. He was so *perfect*. And that big, coarse, vulgar, oh-so-German Catherine? I spent the entire movie jumping around in my seat as I recognized people, saying to myself, "Oh, that's YOU! And YOU!!".

I loved the film, can't you tell? ;-)
