i was lazy and didn't feel like putting on my slippers. they're large foam things. great for nerve pain, but since they're big, they wear me out a little while walking.

well, we have hardwood floors. gorgeous wood, original. and it's winter, so the wood is a bit drier than the rest of the year. and it splinters sometimes. especially when i'm wearing tights. i tend to shuffle and slide more in tights, to avoid losing my balance. well, that means i get splinters wedged way deep, under calluses.

when i move quickly, the splinters are more frequent. i'm in a manic kitchen-cleaning mood. i've done loads of dishes and put a lot of stuff away. i *might* scrub the floor. i've been disinfecting surfaces (window ledges, etc) where i find mouse tracks. maybe this will tire me out enough to sleep in an hour or so. anyhow, i'm moving quickly. and i was wearing tights. and the floor caught me.

i nearly had to *cut* this one out.

such an innocuous, thorn-shaped piece of wood... and it manages to get so damn deep.

i'm going to go find my slippers now.

OWWWWWW! Calluses will help protect you from splinters, but that's pretty bad. Of course, you may just need a better finish on your floor, too.

The floor appears to be varnished, it's just really old. I don't own the house, so I'm not going to do anything that might harm the floors. Because of my health problems, I can't apply a commercial finish. About all I could do is a combination of lemon juice and linseed oil and even that might bother me.
