the goldfinches are showing off their winter coats. the juncos are in full force.

the north wind is blowing, rendering the maple and oak leaves airborne flocks of birds, heading south.

and the sun is shining.

Sigh... I miss goldfinches. We had several (albeit captive, unfortunately) when I was a young-un.

put up a thistle sock.

while we didn't see many goldfinches in mooreland, i saw tons up at mississinewa and also in parks in indy.

walmart has cheap thistlesocks, but a wild bird center will have higher quality mesh drawstring socks which will last longer. and thistleseed is cheap.

it might be too late in the year to attract a nesting population, but you'll catch some local winter-overs and some more northerly migratory birds.

and this time of year, juncos and sparrows will eat the seed that drops. :)

The goldfinches are wearing olive drab, but no sign of junco's up here yet.
