My winter coat is old and raggedy. My cloak is in need of a new lining. So, I followed a link to a pretty velvet coat. It's just what I want *and* it's on sale.

Then I see the length. 53"

I check my current ankle-length coat. 43". i checked its size: 12P. all my other clothing (okay, my tops and dresses, anyway) is 14/16, so I figured the 14 from silhouettes would fit. Obviously, my height (or lack thereof) isn't something I remember very often. It's pretty hard to find a petite coat that will accomodate my lovely cleavage. Dammit, short people can have boobs, too! And plus-size folks can be SHORT!

I've checked thrift stores. Coats I like aren't anywhere to be found. I'm not that hard to please: long, natural fiber, lined, and comes in black, dark purple, or charcoal gray.

*sigh*

Guess I'll have to keep looking.

Other stuff I've done today:
+ called doctor's office about sinus infection. i'd like to have this treated BEFORE i fly to indiana next week.
+ called maintenance about clogged tub train, water marks on bedroom ceiling, and to check on the status of the furnace igniter replacement
+ tossed a load of towels into the wash
+ ate some leftovers
+ squirted toilet bowl cleaner into toilet
+ put some sweats on
+ put some potholders away

things i have not done:
+ actually CLEANED or TIDIED.
+ called artie to see about hanging out today
+ showered or gotten dressed
+ called my dad to get the VIN for my car
+ called insurance with that VIN to set up coverage.

you're a talented chic

Buy the coat and hem it. If you've got the skills to make cloaks, you can hem a coat, cain'tcha??

The boobs, though, they always get in the way, don't they. Sigh. They are lovely, but troublesome. And backbreaking.

So, did I miss this about a new car? What gives??

gah... hemming a velvet coat with a quilted lining? i may be talented, but i'm not masochistic. and i haven't been sewing lately due to back/neck/hand problems. i could beg mum to do it, i suppose. it doesn't really matter though, since it wouldn't fit right through the torso. my legs are long, my torso is SHORT SHORT. i swear, my boobs are below my waist. ;)

as for the car. my grandmother already willed me her florida car. since then, she has lost her eyesight, her lower legs, and any hope of ever going back to florida (or driving, for that matter). she's in a nursing home and figured she may as well give me the car now, since nobody is using it and she may as well not have it on her policy.

so i will soon be the owner of a 95 buick regal 4-door sedan with less than 20,000 miles on it. and it's WHITE. yeah. huge tank of a pimp mobile for little old me to drive. i have a feeling it's going to be finding bumper stickers on its rump rather soon.

maybe i should visit ya when i come out. i'm not sure how far y'all are from elkhart, IN, but i could probably make the trek if dad lets me. otherwise, we'll just have to wait til i visit indiana in a non-winter month again.

okay

Bad idea about the coat. Just thought it sounded up your alley, but didn't realize the massiveness of the alts that would be needed.

Cool that you're getting your granny's car, even if it is a boat. I'm sure you'll find many ways to make it "yours." And you'll have a way to pick us up at the airport next time we come to town, right?

I have no idea how long the drive is from Elkhart. I think Chesterton (which is not too far outside Gary) is about an hour, so I suspect Elkhart is a good bit longer than that. *shrug* I'm so bad at estimating things like that. Hmmmm, I wonder what Yahoo Maps has to say about it . . . oy. They guess about 3 hours. Ooof. That's a piece of driving.

*pout* And visiting with you again would be so much fun. *kicks Elkhart for being so far away*

well, i won't be in elkhart all of the time. i'll stay there for the night after visiting grandma in LaGrange. and i'll spend at least a day in west lafayette, visiting my brother and cousins. the rest of the time i'll be in mooreland. that's even FURTHER from you. ;)

i'm only gonna be in indiana monday-fri, so i doubt i'll visit everyone i want to see.

but yeah... i'll have a land yacht to pick y'all up in when next you visit.

You know, at first I read that as "breathtaking"...

well, you know

They may very well be that as well. It's all a matter of taste.

Hmmm, I don't know if it'd be appropriate for me to voice an opinion on whether or not Ms. Newt's cleavage is breathtaking. If it were, I'd voice the opinion that it is, but I don't know if it is.

And as for issues of tasting her cleavage, I think I should leave that well enough alone...

i sought an expert opinion and was informed...

"your cleavage tastes like a cool sip of kvass on a sunny Irish morning, buried under lots of rocks."

so, there you have it.

i'm not sure this expert is all he's cracked up to be, though he's certainly cracking up.

If you should get down Indianapolis way (I know, doubtful but what the hell, worth offering) lemmeknow. Would love to meet you. (ooo...I'm really becoming a live journal junky, possibly meeting people in real life.) As for being short and having backbreaking cleavage...yep, me too. I have short arms, short legs, a long torso, and enough chest for three people. :(

Let me know if you find a great short cloak...I'm in the market for one myself....

Have a safe journey if I don't "talk" to you before then...oh, and congrats on the car. www.northernsun.com has more bumper stickers than sanity, most of them are GREAT. Have fun.

my folks live an hour from indy (45 min from castleton). i'll be over there visiting a friend of mine at least once and i'll be in castleton once or twice to get food at winding way (unless dad stops at wild oats on our way home from the airport). so i could probably arrange a visit. :)

oo Wild Oats. I know where it is and love the place...and there's a great Thai restaurant in Broad Ripple if you want to meet for lunch? They do vegetarian...can you stand to watch someone eat meat? I can handle vegetarian if it's offensive to you...Or we could just chat over a smoothie at Wild Oats if you're really limited on time. I realize you're probably here to vist family for the most part

eh, i avoid eating food in indiana. i'm allergic to soy (among other things) and most restaurants in indiana are just plain dangerous. i did eat at a cool greek place in broad ripple this spring, though. we'll figure it out next week. what hours are you generally available? i don't know which days i'll be available. i have to drive up to goshen/elkhart/lagrange one day (stay the night, come home next day) and to west lafayette another. such a short visit. :/ i promised to see a friend who lives near broad ripple, though, so i *will* be in indy at least one day. ;)

allergic to soy and vegetarian, wow, that has to be some balancing act, I'm impressed!
Greek food is cool...I can handle about anything except curry, tumeric tends to set off the asthma...
time available...my schedule is pretty open, you name it, I can usually be there. You're the one who has a lot to do, so we can work with what you have available.
I'm off to beddie bye for now, meds are kicking in and I have some stuff to do tomorrow...
