Adventure.
Feb. 7th, 2010 04:08 pmBrrrrr, the house got cold last night. Power went out at 9pm. We left the taps dripping because the forecast low was 7F (-14C).
We live in the city, so power outages don't affect our water situation. We have a gas hot water heater, so we can take hot showers/baths and wash dishes when we have no power. I lit tons of candles and we took care of all that stuff.
Without the white noise of air filters and the furnace, kiddo slept for crap. And the manbeast slept for crap because he's sick and the kiddo was sleeping for crap. Which meant I slept for crap. Oh, well.
Got up this morning and had to dig out the grill. We intended to do it earlier, but we're all sick and shoveling is hard work when one has respiratory ick. Anyhow, I had leftover pizza. Grilled. YUM.
We then bundled up and set out for a three mile round trip to Starbucks, intending the charge the laptops (hey, we're sick, parenting by Thomas video is all we can manage at times) there, but the power truck restored power just as we walked out onto the main city street. So the manbeast turned back and left the laptops at home. We still went out for coffee, because walking seems to help my sinuses stay clear and I wanted coffee, darnit! It's gorgeous today in Charlottesville.
Oh, and the pizza was so awesome that we had to hike to a grocery store, too. I needed more cheese. ;) And I'm going to grill pizza for supper just because. Free trolley to downtown, walked a bit. We bought cheese at the new Market Street Market, along with green onions and a massive sandwich for the manbeast. Ronan and I walked over to see if the Museum was open (no) and walked back so that Ronan could sit down and eat chips (he'd only nibbled on his packed lunch) with Tom while I browsed the GF section and gave the proprietors feedback. Transit center, free trolley, Ronan fell asleep. Got off at Stacey Hall, strapped him into the Deuter (still sleeping) and hiked the last bit home.
We need a new grill cover, though. The old one was frozen solid to the deck and the manbeast was delirious and just ripped it off.
I'm not planning on digging the car out. I'll take the bus to a grocery store on Monday and buy any necessities before Tuesday's snow.
And the bobcat vigilante worked on our street from the time the snow started sticking until late last night, when the city plows finally came through.
Kind of woozy in the head. I need some more tea. It's really nice out and I'm definitely on the mend, but oy. Hiking with kid on the back in snow can be hard work. :)
