Sears Washer update
Apr. 9th, 2007 10:09 amSo, last week or the week before we called up Sears for repair service. We thought the washer was on a 3-year plan, but we still called the warranty line. They took the phone number and came up with my name and address and scheduled the call. We had to pay for the call and part--about $300. The part is due to be installed today. It arrived last week in the mail--I thought it odd that it was sent to ME, when boy bought the washer, scheduled the service, and paid the repair guy when he came to look at the washer.
On Sunday, I get a call from Sears, asking for boy. They want to renew our coverage on the washer. It was a five year plan. We bought it five years ago this week. Um . . . why the hell did we pay, then?
It turns out they have two accounts for us. One is for our five year old address and number, in boy's name. That's what the washer is on. They pulled up an account for me--but we can't think of ANYTHING I've bought and purchased an extended warranty for. The Sears card is only in Tom's name--I don't have a card there and generally don't buy anything I'd want extra coverage for.
Tom's trying to straighten this out and obtain a refund. If they come through, we'll probably extend coverage. After that, I need to call and find out just what I've got coverage on in my name. I can't figure out why there'd be an account in my name, unless I actually purchased a plan for the trim saw and cordless drill.
A-hah! He just asked. The vacuum cleaner is in my name. Of course! My mom and dad bought me one when we moved in here, and it was put in my name at the store, even though I didn't pay for it. They've now merged our accounts and updated all the phone/address info. And after the payments/repair things are processed, we should be getting a refund.
That eases my mind and boy's budget. Phew.
