I'd like to do a one-way hike of the AT/Mau-Har trail sometime in the next month.
I want to start from Reeds Gap and hike to VA 56.
It goes like this:
1.8 mi on AT from Reeds Gap to the Maupin Shelter.
3.3 mi on Mau-Har Trail back to the AT.
1.5 mi on AT to route 56.
We'll need two vehicles. We can provide one, obviously. Someone else will have to drive, too. We go to the VA 56 parking area, drop off a vehicle, then pile into our car and drive up to Reeds Gap (BR Pkway and VA 664)
The Mau-Har trail is a steep canyon/gorge hike, almost entirely downhill in the direction given. The 50ft Campbell Creek Falls are a feature, as are numerous deep pools. The AT access route we'll take will probably be uphill, but not treacherously so.
I realize it's a 6.6 mile hike. I think I can handle it. I'm pretty sure the dog can handle it, but it's a popular trail, so I might not want to take him on it on a weekend.
So, do I have any day-hikers willing to join me for a weekday hike?
