busy day...
Apr. 12th, 2004 12:21 amWe went to Richmond today. Initially, we wanted to go to Katz, but the store was closing at 3pm today. We were calling at noon, so that didn't give us enough time to get to Rockville and actually shop. We called a kosher market on Gaskins road in Richmond, but they're closed through Tuesday (um... most Kosher markets stay open *during* Passover to get ahold of the Passover market, don't they? I mean, sure, close on the Sabbath and after sundown, but on Sunday? Monday?).
I decided we should go to Richmond, anyhow. Since there's a much larger Jewish community, I thought the regular grocery stores might carry more than the stores in Cville do. We discovered that all the Ukrop stores close on Sunday--not just *this* Sunday, but every Sunday.
Kroger was better. :) They had white chocolate. It's soy-free! This is the first soy-free white chocolate I've seen. :) I bought several bars to stockpile, along with some boxes of KoJel (strawberry and lime flavors). I got a couple bars of dark chocolate, too. I still need to go to Katz to stock up on unflavored KoJel.
We met up with
rat_bastard after leaving Kroger. We met Kyle's cats: Tiger and Marshmallow. Marshmallow just wanted attention. She was perturbed by the laser and mildly interested in the valerian. Tiger liked the light quite a lot and wanted to keep playing.
Will introduced us to Bottoms Up Pizza. He'd mentioned it earlier, so I called and talked to the kitchen manager. Even though they use latex gloves, he personally assured me I could come in any time and he would make a safe pizza. This was damn good pizza. I got a vegetarian with white sauce, boy got a white pizza with broccoli, caramelized onions, and chicken. Will got a feta without onions or tomatoes, I think. The pizza is a medium crust, which is perfect. I love Christian's Pizza, but it's thin-crust and a nice, thick hand-tossed is always my favorite. (I love deep-dish, but face it--it's not possible to find it outside of Chicago.)
I took some pics while we were down in Shockoe Bottom. ( pics here )
While boy was at practice, I boiled some eggs. I started dyeing them as he came home. he dyed a few before he decided to dye something else. Yes, that's asparagus. my crowded counter... I bought that dye kit years ago. I know I can just use food coloring and stuff, but the kits are fun and messy, too.
