rootofnewt: (cooking)
I was making Makhni Maa today, but I screwed up and forgot the makhni (kidney beans). Since I'd already cooked the maa (whole urad/black lentils), I just strained out a lot of the liquid and finished the recipe. It was very good.

I also made the eggplant recipe [livejournal.com profile] annaoj provided. I love that recipe. I'm making it at least three times a month. It's very good. I keep increasing the amount I make so that we have leftovers, but we always end up with one *tiny* serving left. It's that good. I let boy grind the poppy seeds during the day while he works. We only have a mortar and pestle for spice grinding and with my wrists... well, it's his job. ;) He can do it in between coding/messaging sessions while he works and reads.

I fixed some red rice with peppers and onion, but it didn't cook completely in the hour and a half after I started it. I pulled out some pappadums (it's a no-wheat day for me) and oiled/microwaved them, leaving the rice on the stove. We forgot about the rice for the next two hours. It didn't dry out, miraculously, and is now like peppery rice pudding. Boy has no texture aversions and says he'll eat it. He's nuts.

I also made fresh cucumber raita, of course.

It seems like the only food I make anymore is Indian food.
