A lot of stoplights are still out. A few are being run by manned generators out of the back of trucks. Last night, a several-block long swath of Main Street was still without power.

UVA lost several large trees. They're in the process of cutting them apart and removing them.

Boy is out mowing the yard. He got eaten by skeeters while he was out picking up branches earlier. I wanted to go out and weedwhack, but anytime I open the door, the mosquitoes find me.

Our neighbor-the-school-principal tried calling her home in Loudon County today. It has power (answering machine came on). She tried to call her school, but got no answer of any sort, so she's not sure her school has power yet. She's not certain school will be in session tomorrow or Tuesday (I believe that area also has a boil/conserve water restriction for the next week).

I think I'll go work on the kitchen or bathroom. One week before guests arrive, so the house needs to be spic'n'span. Most of the problem right now is just our long hair. It gathers and evolves into dust bunnies and dust rhinos, which then congregate and hold meetings and develop forms of government.
making pasta feta salad. yum. boy did the yard. he's so sweet.

maybe we'll go for a walk later. boy has practice at 6:45.

i need to call [livejournal.com profile] red_frog to see if she's figured out her dryer yet.
[livejournal.com profile] red_frog showed us her blue fungus today--aren't y'all jealous?

i finally figured out what it was tonight--Pulcherricium caeruleum. it definitely lives up to its name. (the last two links are images)

So, Harris Teeter has scuppernongs. Having never tried a *fresh* one, I decided they were important hurricane food.

These things are awesome. They taste like fake grape flavor (think Grape NeHi) or super concentrated Concord grapes. Very yummy.

Kroger currently has Concords for a decent price. I'm enjoying a bowl of scuppernongs and Concords as I write this.
