Oct. 12th, 2002 04:09 pmi'm glad grandma didn't purchase the special toiletupgrade for the buick.
or maybe she had to pay to NOT have the toilet. it's the no-toilet upgrade. yes. i think so.

Oct. 12th, 2002 07:00 pmwell, boy cleaned the kitchen. i'm out of gloves (the gloves i did have mildewed when the sink decided to leak into the cupboard) and my skin's so dry that doing them more than once every other day results in severely cracked cuticles and very painful fingers. needless to say, my hands aren't pretty right now, so he did the rest of the dishes I didn't do yesterday or the day before.
we had borscht around five. that was nice. then we set to cleaning. i stripped all the beds and the futon. opened several windows and set up some fans to get some air flow going, and set to...
the floor in the bedroom is now visible. boy's closet is neatened (he did that). all the socks/undies are folded. several things from my pile are on hangers, waiting to be carried up to the loft. the bed is still piled high with my clothing (it was too hot to go upstairs this summer), waiting for hangers. we'll do that after i rest a bit.
then we'll probably briefly wet-mop the floor, dust the stereo and dressers, and make the bed. it's amazing how different it looks. i usually try to keep things from cluttering the bedroom, because i'm allergic to dust mites. maybe this will help me sleep better.
i'm very achy, so we're staying home from the dawning tonight--besides, we've been into town *EVERY SINGLE DAY* this week. i need a break, and so does the car.
MPFC is on right now. boy is on the porch eating a tangerine, but he keeps giggling at the dialogue (okay, john cleese as the grand inquisitor lip-syncing to petula clark tunes IS giggle-inducing).
the sun came out for a bit today, so i pounded a nail into one of the porch supports out back and hung up the mothballed skirt of doom. i think i'll probably bring it in soon and then put it out again tomorrow, if the weather cooperates (frankly, i'd rather we have rain, but i'm also getting VERY headachy and lung-achy from this skirt).
i think that after we handle my pile o'clothing, we'll probably start a load of wash and then just veg out for the rest of the evening. perhaps we'll watch a lexx dvd or NMBC... or the brazil commentary from the criterion edition. or maybe we'll be really silly and watch evil dead and army of darkness. ooooh yeah. :)

country house cleaning
Oct. 12th, 2002 10:47 pmwalking into the bed room from the music room. gone are the bins, laundry baskets full of hangers, suitcases, etc. i put the bedroom curtains up (there were blue, lightweight cotton curtains), finally. i'm not sure the rod will hold. i need to borrow a drill so i can put up the heavy rod. the curtains are heavy cotton panels from ikea. out of the corner of the camera's eye, you can see my old tv. it's the tv that lived in my bedroom as a kid. has a UHF dial. we keep it in a spare room (sometimes the bedroom, sometimes not), hooked up to cable or satellite and use it to tape shows (while the other tv/vcr are in use) or to entertain chilren who visit. we rarely watch tv in bed. we sometimes use this one for the CD-music channels on the minidish, though. the picture isn't so hot anymore, so it's not much fun for adults to watch. it can handle cartoons, but not flesh tones, etc.
our bed, my dresser. you can see the afghans my grandma made on the bed. those are now our his/her blankies. ;) and the summer comforter is still on the bed. soon, the brown/black/gold winter comforter will come out.
my side of the bed, from the bathroom. normally, the floor isn't visible. it's normally piled with blankets and pillows. those are all put away.
looking through from the bathroom door to the music room door. dresser with the tv now cleared off (previously home to a box of hats). once again, we have a FLOOR!. i'm standing where a dresser, suitcase, and giant pile of clothes once lived.
and now we rest. we're watching Lexx, season 2, episode 19 (i think)--Brigadoom.
YAY! musical Lexx!
