Sep. 6th, 2002 01:29 amwell, my mother is kindly putting a new lining in my cloak. i've decided to look for new clasps for it. i have some victorian clasps (various styles) that i've used, but some of them need resoldering and some i don't want to use in very cold temperatures (early plastic/silver).
so, it's off to ebay i go. if anyone knows of any other commercial sites selling clasps, feel free to point 'em out. i can't use anything that's lightweight. i use metal clasps, fairly heavy and sizeable. small (1", 2") pewter/silver clasps do *not* hold up to the stress of a heavy wool, lined cloak.

There's one on this page:
http://www.patternsoftime.com/CatalogG.html
that says, "Solid Pewter clasp suitable
for holding an extremely heavy cloak
and towing small vehicles. Vikings would
be proud to be seen in this one.
I'm not finding what I'm looking for, though: a hinged clasp that could be used instead of a button. It would open to go through a buttonhole and then fold back on itself. Perhaps there's a special name for this?
