[livejournal.com profile] explodingcat's mom is here for a few days. i'll probably be offline most of the time. i plan to bake some pies, maybe do some sightseeing, and enjoy her company.

we tried to go up to the orchard today, but the gate at the base of the mountain says it's closed. oh, well.

it's been raining steadily since yesterday afternoon. YAY! and it's been steady and slow, so no major flooding. the ground was able to slowly open up and soak up the water.

the hummingbird has not yet attacked boy, though she does stare at him daily. the goldfinches are eating thistle seed. and yesterday, we saw newborn beef learning how to walk in the pasture. we also saw LOTS of butterflies on the thistleplants along the fencerow.

Ahhhh, Mother Nature understands her own needs better 'roundabouts where y'all live. We go about a month with no measurable rainfall, then get, literally, a month's worth of rain in a few hours.

Ouch!!!

Holy flooded alley, batman. Not to mention the highways and the dips in the roadways that go under viaducts.
