tritones and theory

i like the augmented fourth/diminished fifth.

i'd forgotten how much music theory i've absorbed through the years.

it's very odd. i studied organ for 10 years, saxophone for three (decided i hated marching in band, which was the only way to be in band, but i did study on my own at home after the three years), piano for three months (learn different fingering, ahem)... i could play almost anything (barring physical inability due to tiny hands) technically/mechanically perfectly.

my lovely husband had 3-5 years on piano before he was 18 and then 2-3 semesters in college. he's never had theory.

he's more of a natural musician than i am. where i have mechanical perfection, he has soul. he tends to have perfection, too. i will *never* be the musician he is, but that's okay. i was never able to infuse music with the emotion he seems to do with ease. he's brilliant, really. and i LOVE listening to him while he plays.

now that i've shown him what the augented fourth and diminshed fifths are, he's going to be using them. ;)

we have similar tastes. i think that's why we end up with walls of plastic lawn skulls, harpies hanging from the ceiling, and spawn demon action figures nailed to the wall in the keyboard nook.

i loved marching band...:)
i played trumpet all 4 years, and was in jazz band for 2 of those 4 years, AND i even made our high schools top jazz band my senior year....that was the same year i took music theory class, and i SWEAR....i just dont get it!! ;((
i dont know what the hell it is, but something about music theory just will NOT click in my brain...much like algebra....
*sigh*

my schmoopy has a music class for college, and shes all asking me questions about this stuff, and i can hardly remember anything that i actually DID know once upon a time...

all i know is i played the notes that were there on the page...
how in the hell did i get through all that?? :(

yeah. my school didn't have a football team. our track was around a baseball diamond.

i put up with marching band until my 30-yr old Martin E-flat Alto got trampled due to the band instructor's incompetence. i was rather pissed off after that and told them that they could take band and shove it.

i was only putting up with marching so that i could participate in jazz, concert, and pep bands. unfortunately, we were forced to march if we wanted to do any of the other programs.

i stopped playing piano when i was 16 b/c i couldn't feel my fingers. i doubt i could hold my saxophone up now. i tried to play my fife the other night and even THAT got heavy.

anyhow, my first school was in henry county (blue river valley, i lived in mooreland). my second was on ball state's campus. then i went to college in DC. i've ended up out here in maryland, with my pretty boy. and i have no white picket fence, despite what SOME PEOPLE we know would say.

we had to be in marching band to be in concert band and pep band and jazz band too....i think i did just about all the bands i could except for orchestra....only because they made me do stupid classes like math and english...:P~~

my little brother has that kind of musical talent. he can play any instrument very well within minutes of being given it. & the sounds that eminate, even from his initial attempts just sing. the only instrument that ever gave him a challenge was the violin - it was fun to watch him experiment with it. i could sit for hour & listen to him play.
