well, i finally got the splinter out. i tried soaking, i tried needles, i tried begging.

after several hours, i finally sat down with my needle and tweezers and dug it out by eliminating the skin above it, layer by layer.

i had to use a machine needle (2020 80/11), but i think this was a good thing. it's very sharp and slightly flattened on the tip. the splinter was a forked shard, which is probably why i couldn't budge it by prodding.

cleaned the angry little wound, applied neosporin and a peace tattoo 3m bandage, hopped in the shower, and now i'm sitting back on the futon.

i'm wearing slippers from now on.

yesterday, i was wearing tights... since i tend to slide in them, i'm more liable to get splinters from the seams in the very old hardwood floors. not a good thing. and now my purple/black stripey tights have a wee hole in the sole. *sigh*

ah, well. thanks for all the tips.

i hate needles so much that one time i got a splinter in my big toe and left it there until it worked itself out.

(it took about a week and it travelled the width of my toe - in one side, out the other. truly bizarre)

unlike my big toe, this splinter was an area that directly bears weight. and i'm going to freak day at king's dominion on saturday, so the thing really needed to come out sooner rather than lter. ;)
