Yogurt's incubating, chuck roast is in the crockpot with onions and berbere. Chickpeas and small red beans are soaking in their own pots.
I think I'll go for a nice long walk and buy some more tahini. And maybe get some coffee while I'm out.
I think the roof will be okay. I've pretty much daylighted somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of the ice dam, which seems to be helping it melt rather quickly. It was under a half foot of snow before and I was worried that there'd be pooling. I've also shoveled at least half the snow off the roof so that it's not pooling behind the ice dam as it melts. I don't think we actually had a lot of pooling, since the bottom inch of the snow is frozen solid. The layer just wasn't going anywhere and the more the stuff on top melts/freezes, the more likely it is to bring down the gutters on our heads in one fell swoop.
I sat on the roof with Ronan's toy shovel. It's a kid's snow shovel. Not heavy duty, but it won't do much damage to the shingles, either. It was perfect for me to use while sitting or kneeling above the snow I was moving.
I've also cleaned out the gutters on most of the front of the house--anywhere the roof was dry enough to sit. We cleaned them twice this fall, but the cherry tree was still losing leaves and the oak leaves are still falling, as they're wont to do. And there were a bunch of ash seeds in there, too. Odd. I'll have to figure out where the ash trees are. There's still about 8' of gutter I haven't reached and it looks like it could use some scooping. If the roof over there is dry today, I'll scoot up and take care of that.
Today is a day of laundry and food, it seems. I do need to take that walk, though. I want to make some hummus.
