It's no secret that I hate the living room carpet. It's our only room with a carpet and it's ugly--that landlord-special "color" which shows all dirt and grunge. It was never particularly well stretched on the east side of the room, so it's got some ridges and bumps.
And it shows dirt. Now, we're a family who takes off shoes indoors, but we still have a dog and toddler. Between dog feet and toddler disasters, the carpet is now fairly grungy. When Ronan began experimenting with being diaperless, I quickly realized the need for a carpet cleaner. Not wanting to store a big one, I opted for a spot bot.
I now have pristine polka dots on my otherwise grungy carpet. I can't decide if this is better or worse. It's not like there's any point in replacing this carpet before he's potty trained. Heck, it's not like there's any point in replacing it before we sell in a few years. And so long as I keep tipping over the high chair tray with two teeny dabs of paint . . . there's just not point in doing anything but staring at polka dots. So that's what I'm doing.
The blocked ears + spot bot noise . . . . makes today lots of fun.

Date: 2009-06-20 07:13 pm (UTC)Now that warm weather is here, pick a weekend when you're going out of town, move the furniture out of the way and rent a rug cleaner. Leave it to dry while you're out of town and wah-la, you come home to a carpet with a uniform grunge. :)

Date: 2009-06-20 07:20 pm (UTC)I've thought about it, but we'd have no space to move in the rest of the house and the piano and dining room table would have to be moved from one side to the other, which is doable, but not with a toddler, dog, and with all the other rooms completely full of furniture.

Date: 2009-06-20 08:50 pm (UTC)On the other hand, I really do hate the carpet, so Ronan is more than welcome to paint, eat wherever, or mud-wrestle the dog indoors. This has to count for some sort of quality childhood experience, even if he does risk contracting some horrific flesh-eating disease from the carpet, right?
Right?

Date: 2009-06-24 10:47 pm (UTC)The hands-free bit is nice, though. And it's the whole reason I bought it. I can press start and go outside with Ronan. He won't stay in the same room as the machine while it's on.
